In the pursuit of my creative vision, I have been surprised by what close companions fear and uncertainty are along my path. Fear is almost like a homing beacon for my truest course, along with joy. I didn’t expect that, but I am learning to embrace it. Finding quiet moments every day to connect and be still is keeping me sane. #quiet
I used to think that my happiness was dependent upon people or things outside myself. I would let outside circumstances and events steer my emotions and my day. .
Saying things like, “You’re making me feel horrible,” does nothing but create more havoc on both your soul and the recipient of the statement. It’s also not true.
Your thoughts and emotions are your choice. No one and no-thing can “make” you feel anything. Happiness is a choice. .
I’ve found that in the midst of discussions/arguments and moments throughout your day, being mindful of the emotions that spring up in you makes a huge difference. .
A quick prayer to God asking to be filled with peace also makes a difference. .
Saying to yourself, “I can choose love/peace/happiness/joy over this.” Makes a difference. .
Being in the present moment makes a difference. Notice it. Notice everything. Notice the air moving through your lungs, and the way the other person’s nose crinkles when they speak, or the silence between their words. The present is all we have. .
And finally, forgive yourself when you’re unable to stay present. Forgive yourself when you let your emotions get away from you. Forgive yourself when anger and resentment take over you. Forgive yourself. Then try again. .
It definitely takes practice and I for one have a long way to go. But being aware and mindful of it is a huge first step. .
Let go and let God. 🕊
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
Romans 8:6 NIV
Last night I fell asleep to the sweet sounds of rain and thunder on the porch wrapped up in my favorite blanket. This morning I awoke at 4am to the darkness and stillness snuggled in my blanket. I got to bear witness to the symphony of the crickets, owls, and birds start their morning while the sun started her slow rise. It was absolutely amazing. #peacefulmoments#mothernature#symphonyofsounds
