Kuiper lifts his gaze to the heavens at the Apollo 14 moon tree in Boise, ID. Swipe to see the tree in its entirety, as well as a close-up of its (extremely cool) plaque! This is our sixth moon tree picture, and our second Loblolly Pine. Many thanks to Principal Adria for granting us permission to visit her school's tree in an area where dogs are not normally allowed.
Before he became an astronaut, Command Module Pilot Stuart Roosa was a smokejumper (one of the brave firefighters who parachute in to fight wildfires.) On January 31, 1971, he brought 500 seeds aboard #Apollo14 as a tribute to the US #ForestService . While Commander Shepard and Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell were collecting rocks and playing golf on the moon, Stuart stayed aboard the command module to take pictures, do SCIENCE and prepare for the journey back to Earth.
Unfortunately, upon returning home the seed container was accidentally exposed to vacuum during decontamination procedures. 😣 Dear reader, the canister EXPLODED. 😮 None of the seeds were expected to survive. However, the Forest Service decided to give them a chance. They carefully separated all five species of tree seeds and divided them between two Forest Service stations, one in California and one in Mississippi.
To their astonishment most of the seeds germinated!! Most of the trees were planted around the country as part of the US bicentennial celebration in 1976. Out of over 400 seedlings, around 50 trees are still alive and accounted for. You can search for "moon trees NSSDCA" to check out the list. Any moon trees near you?

This past couple weeks have been absolutely brutal. Our family misses Beau so very much, and we are still battling to try and find a new normal. .
You just don’t realize how much space in your hearts and lives these sweet fur friends take up.... in our family the gaping hole left with out our boy feels so overwhelming and though we’re thankful for our time together (4 yrs) and also that he’s not suffering anymore, it still hurts. .
We are looking at some English cream golden puppies expected for next summer. 🙏🏻 Also we recently got a kitten and she’s @littlemiss_mabel. .
We hope our Beau is smiling down on us with his silly grin from puppy heaven and we hope he knows how much we will always, always love and remember him. .
Happy Monday. 💕🐶🌈
Hi guys, sorry to keep you guys waiting for Cookie's biopsy results.
It turns out that one of the spots the vet sent to test is the mast cell tumor. The other lumps are cysts (back and ankle) and fatty. We have decided to remove them but we need to run some tests on her blood and heart on this Thursday. We ran the ultrasound at her belly and everything is okay except the kidney due to her age.
Once everything is good, the surgery can be done on next Tuesday.
Thank you again for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.
Popeye wants to remind everyone that there will be NO CLASSES this Wednesday or Thursday (August 22nd & 23rd), because we will be attending IFCS World Team Tryouts in Tennessee!!! We will message everyone to schedule make-up classes when we return.
