H E A L I N G || #IHealMyselfToo
As a future #healthcare#provider , I aspire to heal my patients on the outside and the inside. I can't imagine any joy greater than knowing that I was responsible for uplifting and improving the quality of someone else's life.
As I continue to gain more #clinicalexperience through my #primarycare exposure, I realize that as we invest time and energy into healing others, we must be willing to invest the same, to heal ourselves.
It isn't about being not hypocritical though. It's about the simple fact that caretakers will always be the least taken care of. Nobody is going to look at them at think about how human or vulnerable they are to falling ill or needing help too. They will always play the role of the hero/heroine in another's life.
In such cases, when a patient comes to us looking to establish new care because their previous provider of (10+ years or so) was overworking, fell too ill, and had to be forced out of practice because of their health, I guarantee you...the patient is feeling nothing short of complete confusion, abandonment and dismay at the situation.
Qualifications aside, it's not easy to lay trust, health management and life, in the hands of a complete stranger. It's not easy to start over. When you fall sick as a provider, not only you, but your patients are hurt also. As current/future providers, we owe it to ourselves AND our patients, to improve and work on our own health. To heal ourselves AND others, because we vow to do no harm. Be this direct, or indirect.
I practice this everyday when I take some time off to go outside and watch the sunset by myself. It immediately declutters my mind, resolves whatever anxiety I've built up and calms me down. By setting aside this time in the day to address my mental health, I work on healing myself, so that I can continue to give me best to my patients, day in and day out.
How would YOU tell your patients #IHealMyslefToo ?

Let’s face it, healthcare is challenging and we are constantly facing the challenge of innovation.

The look I give my patients when I have to gown up and prepare to give them a real good cleaning... "wash your hands, brush those teeth and let's scrub scrub scrub! And a little foot rub for you before I go" 😊
There isn't usually much time to do extra things for your patients during a busy 12 hour shift with 4 patients. But as a student I have a little more time and I make sure I use it wisely. Taking a little extra time to provide some TLC to my patients makes their day and mine #thesmallthings .
You'll be surprised at how something as simple as "feeling" clean can help with the healing process for really sick patients. The things we take for granted everyday like being able to get up and shower are the things they appreciate the most. These are the moments that make a difference. Patient centered care!!!
every day is a good day for a flight @haitiairambulance. especially when we turn a 7hr car ride into a 41 min lifesaving patient transport. great to collaborate with @hopitalbonfin #hems#haiti#patientcare#savealife

November is National Caregivers Month- The role of caregiver can come about expectedly or thrust upon someone suddenly. Caregivers may often be overlooked, as the focus is on the patient's care. It is important to show caregivers that they are appreciated. We'd like to use this month to acknowledge those who selflessly provide care and support to their loved ones. Join us for a free webinar covering the latest information for patients and caregivers on November 28, 2018: http://www.lls.org/events/who-gives-care-to-the-caregiver
#SpiritualSaturdays | Take some leaps of faith, bold steps and put your grandest plans in motion. Don't worry who's "above" or "below" you, and whatever you do, don't think about apologizing for pursuing your own personal goals. When you fulfill your destiny and feel good about your accomplishments, you'll be able to lend a helping hand and better guide others on their journey. #bhealthwellness
#BreastBiopsy needle localization wires have a long history of being accidentally partially withdrawn, resulting in a failed surgery. They can also work themselves deeper, resulting in lung collapse, pericardial tamponade or heart muscle penetration. Minor patient movement (like simply using the restroom) could cause these scenarios to occur. #WireFix prevents this entirely.

ABC 20/20’s “Brave New Face” featured @dr_lee_lq_pu member of #TheAestheticSociety and ASERF Board Member. Dr. Pu provided initial reconstructive surgical care for a patient, but it was his proposal to prepare for a future face transplant that started a 26-year-olds journey to a better life: http://bit.ly/2Q4gc5e (🔗link in profile).

UC Davis Medical Center and Dr Lee LQ Pu in ABC 20/20’s Special Program, called “Brave New Face”, aired on Friday, November 16, 2018. I am so happy that my idea to prepare the patient for future face transplant was the right thing to do at that time. Thanks for Dr Rodriguez’s NYU team to make his face transplant a successful reality.
