Tom is a dear friend of mine. He has watched my 6 for over a decade now a the Blue Chip Company. We both hail from ‘Cuse. If your brain doesn’t have a clear image of what you’re trying to move, it won’t let you.❌
Sometimes our brain can get a distorted picture of body parts (for example by lack on sensory input or as a result of an injury). When the map isn’t clear, it may freak out and won’t let you move the way you want to.
It’s trying to protect you! So in this case, stretching may actually cause LESS range of motion in the long run because you’re adding more stress to the already worried system.
Try it yourself. For example the next time you wake up with a stiff neck. Apply very light touch to the skin (this is not a massage) and draw an image of the body part in your mind.
Works even better if done by someone else, so get your partner involved😏
