"Six Men and a Boat"
Picture this painting big! It is 4, tall and 6' wide. Toy collectors will recognize the figure of Bill Ding, the wooden building blocks. I drew the figure and cut it out paper-doll style and folded a paper boat from lined school paper. White on white has been a reoccurring theme and obsession throughout my career. Oil on Canvas, 48"X 72", Private Collection, #trompeloeil#fooltheeye#oilpainting#billding#toy#whiteonwhite#paperdoll#paperboat
Do you remember the last time you sailed a paper boat in the rainwater? Probably you don't even remember that, right? Or you might just feel its stupid and you're way too old for it now. But we all have that inner child within us, just lost in this busy world. I'm not saying this because it's raining and it feels nostalgic. All my thoughts are from something that I've experienced when I was away for a while. It was just a week after I had started blogging, I lost my phone (I'm super careless). And bam! I disappeared from all the social media in just a night. Something not by choice but by chance. And I'm glad that it happened. Cause it made me realize that we are so much into comparing ourselves with others lives that we actually tend to forget our self-worth. We forget to appreciate our own self and all the tiny things that happen in our life. In this course of two months, I could focus more on myself, do many productive things, things that I loved; which I thought I didn't have time for. Even did things which I thought I'd never do. I read more, painted, learned a foreign language, explored myself in different genres. It was a period of learning and growing. Of course, it was difficult at the initial stage without any social media interaction but over the time I was getting used to it and enjoying it. Social media is meant to connect people but it is losing its essence, where we don't have any real conversation with anyone anymore. We're so connected virtually that we are disconnected in real life. This period of social media detox was something that I needed, and I think we all must try it at least once and experience it yourself the peace that you feel while you're at it.💕

This is Daniel McGonigle, he was a blacksmith and helped to build the paperboat! He brought pictures of the paperboat - he is in this one of the boat in St Catherine’s Dock, London and today he made a wee wooden boat! Great to meet him ! #paperboat#georgewyllie @georgewylliefoundation ❤️
