Hvor heldig har man lige lov at være! Efter en dårlig start hvor jeg måtte lunte igennem menneske mængden, fik jeg gang i mit løb og fik løbet op til hende her. Hun er uden tvivl en af de bedste løbere jeg kender (der er intet hun ikke kan) og at få lov til at løbe de sidste 6km med hende var bare helt perfekt. Last race of the year and repping @drinkzeds that starts with the last letter in the alphabet... Cooncidence? Or am I just thinkin way too much about this? That said the Alexa Thunder Trail Run 1/2 Marathon was a great race. The final two miles were 🍌s with a crazy incline and then down hill to close things out. And it was cold again. Habits and how we form them ..... a bit deep for early morning but as I wait for enough day light to arrive and think of all the ways not to talk myself out of running in the current 30mph gusts, it got me thinking. 🤔
Tuesday 6pm Thurso and 5.30pm Wick sees North Highland Harrier squads assemble for whatever pain they are going to put themselves through.
Most runners haven’t even checked the session - why would they; it’s that time, on that day, in that place and we train. They have formed a healthy habit.
Another example - Saturday 9am in Thurso once a month is @sarah_3dpt Bootcamp and we know how much pain that will involve but we all turn up without question - we have formed a habit ( which includes knowing we will get a reward of peanut butter cupcakes 🧁😚). Final example is when @emmaalouuise and @oonaghdunnett come home for Xmas and we fall back into all of the wonderful training habits we formed when they were junior athletes; we train, we talk training, we refuel, we train some more (sorry @gadunnett 🙈). Habits can be unhealthy or negative but as runners it is important especially on dark / wet / cold / very cold days that we have good habits in place to fallback on. The kind of habits where you don’t even question the action you are about to undertake ..... or in my case when hubby occasionally stops me as I head out the door and says “your mad you’ll fall on your ar.. it’s that icy.” You check and yep it really is unsafe but you never questioned that you would not run as it was that time, on that day, in that place and you train.
Now if you are suddenly thinking 🤔 that is what I need, I need some good habits to get me out the door today, research has shown habits take between 18 and 254 days to form with the average been 66 days for a behaviour to become automatic due to habit formation.

We got our 5 miles in today. It was a compromise from my scheduled run (neither one of them would make it 19 miles, even if they both rode in the stroller). So here we are.
