When I first started training as a child, it was constantly drilled into me that I must stretch my muscles in order to warm up and prepare for the activity ahead. 
However, research has now shown us that stretching the muscles before we have warmed up correctly can actually damage them, causing a lot of unnecessary pain and injury.

When everything is cold, the fibres within our muscles are not correctly prepared and can easily become damaged. Therefore it’s so important to prepare our bodies for the task. 
We can achieve this by doing five to ten minutes of light cardiovascular exercise. Exercises such as star jumps, skipping or a light jog around the mats will increase our heart rates.

Once completed, our muscles begin to fill with oxygen rich blood and our ligaments and tendons are becoming more pliable and acceptable to change. This is due to the increase in blood flowing around our joints allowing us to move more loosely, ultimately preventing injury as our muscles are now prepared for the job ahead. Last week we hired bikes in Santa Barbara; it was hillier than expected, and hot of course, and the daughter (6) found it tough - although it did mean she finally understood what gears are all about. I started my journey at 18stone (118kg) and to date I am 78kg, so believe I have worked hard for it, I’ve remained consistent and kept my goal in mind! I like to eat takeaways, crisps, I drink and I snack but I always ensure it’s in moderation or with calories I have saved but this is information I can provide you if you want it! I have done the leg work and I am nearly ready to start helping anyone who wants it! So if I say I understand believe me I do! ❤️!

This mama did NOT want to train this morning. She’s juggling a lot at the moment and know the last thing she felt like doing was fitness in the drizzle on a Monday morning. But she did it (with minimal protesting 🤣) because she’s prioritising her health and well being despite all the craziness going on around her. Her little one stayed snug and dry and enjoyed the fresh air and she felt SO MUCH better mentally and physically afterwards.

I have two fab courses that can help you with this. .
1.  6 week beginner running workshops - where we will talk posture, breathing, what to do with your arms and all those questions that you felt might be too silly to ask! This is perfect for those who have been out of the running habit for some time, or who have wanted to get started but find it hard to get going…or even for those who run on a treadmill in the gym but have a bit of outdoor running fear. .
It’s a small group of women. Super friendly. And in beautiful locations in North Somerset. It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy the autumn too. .
2. 6 week improvers running classes - 35-45 minute sessions that will take one aspect of running and work on it. Posture and gait, speed, strength, core stability and all sorts of goodies.

This isn’t my typical wildlife or nature post, but I’m proud of myself so who cares? Today officially marks my 9th consistent week of running at least 3 days a week. It would be twelve had I not slacked off while visiting TX, but runnings about moving forward 😉. To think I almost didn’t go this morning because it “might” have started raining—which it did.
