🔺Trunk Anti-Extension Exercises To Safeguard the Spine🔺⁣

Anti-extension is any exercise where the purpose is to resist extension at the spine by the anterior chain. Sports such as football, swimming, and gymnastics are at a high risk for spinal extension injuries. We need to begin implementing these movements in movement prep programs to reduce injury potential.⁣

Examples of my favorite trunk anti-extension movements are (see videos):⁣
🔹 TRX Push-up Isometrics & Grasshopper (demonstrated by @fitwithgina_ct )⁣

Our horses can feel pain, stress, anxiety, muscle fatigue and cardiovascular stress.

They are more intelligent than many riders give them credit for and capable of expressing emotion. 
As riders we need to make sure we look after their body’s, keep them fit and conditioned for the tasks they’re asked to do and keep their work varied and interesting.

REMEMBER - just because ‘you’ve always done it that way’ or ‘you have a strong opinion for or against a practice’ - that ‘your way’ might not be what’s considered best for the horse.

The horse is a blameless participant in YOUR sport and you owe it to them to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible.

Disc bulges are commonly found in asymptomatic populations❗️. A study published in the American Journal of Neuroradiology looked at imaging reports of 3100 individuals without pain 🚫 . The study found that degenerative spinal changes on images were common asymptomatic patients. Disc degeneration, disc bulges, disc protrusion, facet degeneration, and spondylolisthesis we're all findings that increased with age 👵🏼. The study concluded that many of these degenerative spinal changes are likely part of normal again and unassociated with pain 🤸🏼‍♀️. Source: W. Hamstring strains occur usually with fast movements like sprinting or overload of the muscle. It might happen with a fast stretched or when the muscle is lengthening as it contracts or shorten. Hamstring strains are one of those stubborn injuries that far too often become recurring injuries or more chronic strains. Their high rate of recurrence is often times due to a lack of careful rehabilitation and training following the injury. 
This exercises can be used in the first stage after a hamstring strain. As usual, my recommendation is to start with the first one and if everything is ok, progress. If there is any sharp pain or the pain gets worst doing the exercises stop doing it, give it a break. You just found the limit, stay below it for few days. When progressing at the next exercises start with 4 repetitions and build it up from there.

1️⃣As a progression you can hold the leg up for longer, up to 15 seconds on each rep. If you hold for a short time do between 6 and 10 on each side if holding for longer decrease the number of repetitions.

The foot has two main function in gait first is pronation and the second is supination.  Pronation is when the foot collapsed as absorbs the shock when the leading foot hits the ground.  Supination is when your foot becomes a more solid structure when we are pushing off. Are you finding that you are often tweaking something after physical activity; your back, neck, hip, ego... etc.🏃‍♀️

There is a reason that we were taught to WARM UP when we were younger during gym class! Even if you feel you are crunched for time, finding time to go through some of dynamic warm-up (as opposed to static/passive) will do your body a huge favour. Simply moving the joints through their ranges, activating muscles that you’ll be using during activity, and prepping the nervous system to coordinate your movements. If you play a sport, a simple but effective component of your warm up can be a much slower/smaller movement mimicking the most dominant movement that you will be doing while you play/perform. For example, if you are a hockey player you may simply mimic the motion of shooting a puck in a slow and controlled fashion to move the joints through the necessary ranges and wake up the nervous system to properly execute the motor pattern.

Конечно, надо помнить, что лучшая подготовка к беременности начинается за несколько месяцев до её наступления. Остеопат сможет подготовить организм к быстрорастущей матке, освободить для неё пространство. Это очень важно, для комфорта малыша. 👶

Теперь хочу продолжить тему подготовки к родам и хочу обсудить организацию процесса родов. ⠀
Идеально рожать со "своей" акушеркой. Тут сразу убиваем двух зайцев) ⠀
Во-первых  психологически более комфортно рожать со "своим" человеком, который в теме. Своя акушерка и успокоит и подбодрит, направит процесс, подскажет.

Во-вторых (по счету,  а не по важности) при родах со своей акушеркой количество ненужных вмешательство в процесс родов как правило минимально. ⠀
Какие вмешательства?
🔸Стимуляция окситоцином
🔸Эпидуральная анестезия
🔸Амниотомия (вскрытие плодного пузыря) 🔸Абдоминальная экспрессия (давление на живот) ⠀
Вышеперечисленные процедуры, выполненные без показаний (что в последнее время происходит, увы, очень часто) нарушают естественный ход родовой деятельности и приводят к формированию родовой травмы у малыша и травматизации самой мамы.☝️

Также важно определиться с местом где будут проходить роды. ⠀
Я не агитирую за роды только дома или только в роддоме (эта тема также остра, как и тема про прививки 🤔). Каждая семья делает свой выбор. 
Самое важное это спокойствие рожающей женщины😇 
Поэтому выбираем комфортное место для появления на свет малыша в зависимости от "системы верований" данной семьи и настраиваемся на роды.

Если учитывать все эти факторы,  то роды будут максимально мягкими и следовательно минимально травматичными до всех участников процесса.

Having flat feet, collapsed arches, or pronated ankles (nearly all the same issue) can cause big problems.

This foot dysfunction can set you up for ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, anterior pelvic tilt and much more.

It’s so important that NFL scouts actually search for this in athletes as a measure of how likely that athlete is to get injured during season.

I’ve shown many exercises on how to address flat feet by strengthening the arch on my youtube channel.

Here is a new one I’ve discovered via IG recently that I love and thought I’d share with you.

Simply place two thick books next to each other.
-
Place your toes on one book, the heel on the other book, and have the arch of your foot be unsupported between the two books.
-
What this will do is get your arch to contract isometrically and strengthen itself once you start bearing weight on that foot and balancing.
-
This is SUCH a powerful exercise.
-
Really make sure you are gripping the toes in and don’t allow the ankle to roll inwards (pronate) either.

Do about 4 sets of 30 seconds or less each side and enjoy the burn.

📩I got a lot of people asking me last night about getting a click their hips when they did the hip flexor exercise I showed. There are actually a few different causes of clicking hips, ranging from muscular tightness to actual joint disorders like labral tears.

😲Most people are freaked out about it but they really shouldn't be. Most hip clicking is just a tendon snapping over a part of the femur and often don't cause pain. If you do have pain though, be sure to get it looked at to make sure it's not the joint itself.
.
🎥This test will let you know if your psoas is the probable cause. It works best for those that feel clicking only when taking their leg from flexion to extension, like lowering down in a leg raise exercise. During that lowering portion, the psoas eccentrically contracts and controls the motion so that your leg doesn't just flop down and that can cause it to snap over the iliopectineal eminence.

🔍The test uses a band to reduce the load on the psoas. As you push against it, you activate the glute and hamstring and the band helps assist the lowering. If the click reduces or stops, it's a clue that your psoas is the culprit.

🛠From there you can start implementing the psoas stretch or band distraction I've shown you before and work on this drill, gradually decreasing band tension over time.

Bridget is a recent graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy.
Originally from Prince Edward Island, Bridget studied Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island and was a competitive Synchronized Swimmer for 12 years. She also has experience coaching athletes from a recreational to elite level. 
During her time as a student she has had the opportunity to work with many different sports such as Rowing, Powerlifting, Swimming, Hockey and running and enjoys helping athletes with injury prevention and maintenance using a variety of massage techniques. Bridget is a current student member with the Canadian Sport Massage Therapy Association and is looking forward to working on her Sport Massage Therapy designation. #massagetherapy #sportsmassage #halifax
