Only the second purple brace I’ve ever had the privilege to do!
At the device delivery last week when it was white I asked if this was what the patient was expecting. The patient hesitated and then said: I thought it was going to be purple. Nothing was noted on the work order or in the notes and the patient said it was fine, that it didn’t matter. I said: you’re going to deny me the opportunity of making a purple brace?! And then I had it remade. The world is a bit brighter today 🤗
Do you ever want to trade in a body part for a better model like Anette does?

Sidst jeg var på Montebello til genoptræning efter min 2.diskusprolapsoperation, overvejede jeg gevaldigt om jeg ikke bare kunne bytte ryg med denne komplette fejlfrie model 🙄😊
THIS is what we call getting back up! We can't wait to see what Ed does next!

When I got the phone call from lois yesterday to ask where I was I probably should of chosen my words a bit more carefully. The reply ‘I’m just up some slags with Pete’ was met by a deafening silence. ‘Heaps... slag heaps’ I followed quickly before the damage was irreversible. ‘Slag heaps’ are in fact man made hills formed from the waste left over from mining operations. They form loose, high, steep sided mounds and the villages around here are surrounded by them. Usually the heaps wouldn’t be a go to place for a stroll given the forty five degree climbs, dust and scree covered slopes, but for those exact reasons we decided it was perfect.
We have discovered that my neurology reacts well to stress. Repetition is key but on top of that it’s good to shake the bottle up now and again and let the silt settle differently.
It’s not only great conditioning for Mont Buet but gradient combined with the loose surface means that every foot placement brings with it an element of danger and therefore a higher level of concentration. Effectively i am trying to strengthen and retrain neurological pathways from my brain to said body part, so it makes sense that the harder i am concentrating the stronger those messages will be. There were moments when both Pete an I were slipping around like pissed eskimos but as well as being funny this is also constructive. In the same way you stick a foot out to catch yourself if someone pushes you, or pull your leg away if you stand on something sharp; sudden movement like a slip or a trip can send your neurology into overdrive and trigger automatic movement that might not be accessible otherwise.
I know that now more than ever i can’t stay in my comfort zone if i want to really change and progress and i’m lucky that i have physios that share that view. Im not sure they are always comfortable with it and i’m probably responsible for a fair amount of stress related ageing but they accommodate me and we have fun doing it. Besides an element of danger makes life more interesting. ✌️
