I am beyond thrilled to see the first #cherimoyafruit on my tree. 🌱🙏🏼💃🏻😊My mom gave me the tiny tree 3 1/2 years ago. Thanks mom! 😘 I was surprised to see the fruit because this type of fruit has to be pollinated by hand. It’s a miracle!! One had already fallen on the ground before full maturity. I can’t wait until I have a tree full of fruit! Cherimoya has an impressive nutrient profile, including high levels of vitamin C and B vitamins, as well as copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and dietary fiber. There are a relatively low number of calories, at only 75 calories per 100-gram serving, as well as low levels of fat. There are also a number of polyphenolic antioxidants found in this fruit that have a powerful effect on your overall health. ✨ #cherimoyatree#organicfarming#nogmos#healthyliving#growyourown#greenthumbgirl#backyardvibes#gardenofeden#grateful
A sneaky early few capsicums in the tunnel house. It's been a nervous couple of nights here on The Food Farm. A big southerly storm left snow on the mountains around us, and the reduced air temperature has increased the risk of frost. That's no small thing so late in the season, so our food & wine lives have been all about frost protecting & fighting. It's been a lot of work but we seem to have come through relatively unscathed. Grateful for all the small tasty things today. 🙏
@Regran_ed from @cymbiotika
Cymbiotika family, let’s discuss Astaxanthin, by far nature’s most potent antioxidant! Astaxanthin is classified as a carotenoid and is primarily found in marine life including micro algae, wild salmon, red trout, krill, shrimp, crabs, and lobsters. It gives flamingos and salmon their brilliant pink hue – and in the case of salmon, gives them the ability to swim upstream!
Astaxanthin is particularly impressive for your skin due to the fact that it never becomes a pro-oxidant, meaning that it protects our cells against oxidation. And, what is oxidation? Technically speaking, oxidation means the loss of electrons. In simpler terms, oxidation is decay or decomposition. This is HUGE family.
-Astaxanthin has been shown in clinical studies to increase skin moisture, moisture retention, elasticity, as well as promote skin smoothness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles.
-Astaxanthin has incredible UV-blocking properties, which helps to assist the skin in protecting itself against sun-related damage.
. -Astaxanthin is 65 times stronger than Vitamin C in combating free radicals. Another reputable clinical study, has shown “Natural astaxanthin is exceptionally powerful in singlet-oxygen quenching. A 2007 study analyzed several popular antioxidants and their antioxidant power. This study found astaxanthin was 6,000 times stronger than vitamin C, 800 times stronger than CoQ10, 550 times stronger than green tea catechins and 75 times stronger than alpha lipoic acid.”
-Astaxanthin can neutralize multiple free radicals at once, protecting your skin and body from oxidation, damage, and inflammation.
-Astaxanthin has been proven to increase blood flow, meaning that it will help your skin to have better circulation. Increased circulation has various benefits, including increased cell turnover, amplified elasticity, and increased water retention.
We combined combined DHA & Astaxanthin and together they cynergized into the most powerful protective antioxidant ever. We are honored to me on this mission with all of you. Cheers to good health and the best skin ever!
Planting out corn salad (mache) for winter harvest. This area will have a greenhouse pulled over it, once we finish harvesting the peppers that it covers now. Look forward to eating these fresh greens December-March. #cornsalad#mache#wintergreens#organicfarming
Today harvested somewhere around 60-70 lbs of squash from some volunteer plants that myself and youth with RTB Environmental Justice Team discovered this summer & cared for in the elder berry orchard. Crazy to see how much food one plant can grow. They seem to be some sort of hybrid of butternut and of acorn squash. Hopefully they taste good. It’s amazing to see how seeds, soil, water, and sunlight manifest into food. #organicfarming#growfood#growpeople#harvest
Vinaka vakalevu, thank you very much @fijionenews for having us on the breakfast show this morning! Thank you Sylvester for the invitation to talk about the launch of our 1st short courses in organic agroecology starting today at our office in Suva :)! 💚♻️🌴 #wananvu#fijiorganics

Today I’ve planted my first tomato seeds - 2x egg hole, so hopefully soon(-ish) there will be 12 beautiful tomato vines 🤞
I followed simple instructions I found online and now hoping to see them grow! No light is needed for the moment it seems, as these are indoor puppies 🍅🍅🍅 #urbanfarming#urbanfarmingrevolution#fromseed#organicfarming#tomatoes
Did you know that Hawthorne Valley Farm was one of the first Organic dairy farms to be certified in the United States? Our grassfed herd is on the smaller size at around 65 cows. The herd grazes during the warmer months and relies on a mix of stored forages from our farm during the colder months. This system is built to benefit both the cows and our soil in a comprehensive biodynamic approach to farming. Not to mention it yields some pretty delicious products like this alpine we have aging in our cellars 🧀 #hawthornevalleyfarm
This past Thursday, our #AskAmes question was, "What is your organic pest solution?"
Our farming goals and philosophy center around working with mother nature, rather than against it. We try to tap into her own systems that she uses to manage pests to create a habitat where beneficial insects like to live 👍🏼

The European Union is suppressing genetically modified crops through harsh regulation. Just recently a EU court ruled that these regulations should also be applied to gene editing, the latest advancement in gene modification techniques. At the same time they make an exeption for mutagenesis, a method that has been in use for decades - all major crops have been modified using this technique. The exemption was justified by the fact that mutagenesis has proven to be safe over the decades.
Does this make sense, scientifically?
To find out, I spoke with plant geneticist Dr. Hélène Pidon about traditional and modern plant breeding techniques. I was surprised how non-GM methods compare to traditional breeding methods and naturally occurring variance in their impact on the genomes of our plants.
We also talked about so called 'bt' crops, glyphosate resistant plants, and organic farming.

2018 - what a year.
I did things I never thought to accomplish. I did jobs I never thought I could do. I was building up an Agritourismo @agrivilla_i_pini on the countryside of Tuscany, helping on a natural construction and brought some sunshine to a place so full of history. I did what I love doing, was able to take photos from stories I thought are worth sharing. Being able to inspire guests to live a more sustainable lifestyle and make them smile. Working on the farm and picking fruit and veggies whenever I felt like it. It all happened naturally. Magical, because all these things I always wanted just came into place. A beautiful time well spent.
I started questioning and learnt to appreciate the time and everything that was given to me.
Once I held in my body got weak, I felt a load on my shoulders. A sign to be out of balance. I started breathing and grounding myself from the mountains to the ocean.
This year another strong reminder. Another lesson to be learnt. Everything we want is a projection, it is the outside world and we can become and do whatever we desire, it is an illusion though since we are working for someone or something to be created in the future while forgetting the present. Thinking about the future can make one excited really, also me, but it makes one to forget the now. I forgot the present for a little while, it is still a challenge in this fast world we created ourselves, but now back on it again while skinny dipping in mediterranean oceans and sleeping on under pine trees in golden sand. Cooling down my heart and filling up my lungs. What will be? I do not know and you should not either. Much love my friends and thanks for still being with me on this wonderful journey called life.
