"The thing I find so fascinating about opera is how the deepest of emotions, ones sometimes hard to even convey through words, can be expressed so much more fully when the words are brought to music." - Valerie Peister, RBPA Program Director #OperaWeek#RedlandsBowl#BowlFamily 📸: @bruceherwig (8/3/18 – Soprano Michele Patzakis)
Come and listen to The Gulfshore Tenors, accompanied by jazz trio, on Nov 9 and 10th. Enjoy diverse repertoire that includes standard love songs of the 20th century and songs made famous by singers such as Il Divo, Andy Williams, and Elvis Presley. #OperaWeek#mcm#tenors
Thank you, @be_goodwin for your unbelievable IG takeover! The Q&A feature was inspiring, and the content fantastic! So ends our special series of #operaweek takeovers! What a great week...
It’s the end of National Opera Week, here’s my 2 cents on why Opera is important for the world:
Opera is a VISCERAL VEHICLE for story telling. Art forms that express stories through the human body reach us deeply. When we feel the full spectrum of emotion, through the vibrations of the human voice, we can immediately connect and have EMPATHY for the characters in the story. Empathy unites us across cultures, races, religions, genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic classes, etc. We NEED empathy to be better humans! It teaches us to care for, accept, and understand each other :) Opera exercises our empathy so that we can use it and apply it in our lives!
Here are some of my favorite operatic moments! Hope you had an amazing Opera Week!

I had the opera-tunity (don’t know why i didn’t
Use THAT before 🤣🤣🤣) to accompany two of the 23 singers in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions today for the Idaho/Montana District!!! We performed “Elle a fui”, “Ach, ich liebte”, “The Cold Scene”, and “Avant” (all shortened titles to avoid autocorrect) out of 10 prepared songs. So 23 singers x 5 each = 115 pieces to choose from. 😳😳😳 Each sang 2-3 pieces and they gave out awards and cash prizes.
I really feel the highlight was Jeffrey Price, the official accompanist. He was incredible and cool as a cucumber. I may have watched him more than the soloists. Shhhh!Don’t tell....So glad to meet him and enjoyed learning from him. A treat to hear old friends sing and create new ones. Winners advance to Seattle to sing again. Then onto New York! Congrats to all! Hard decision to pick the winners! #operaweek#adventuresinaccompanying#metropolitanopera#music#byuialumni#collaboration#musictomakeup
Bravo, @ambetenor on a creative and entertaining IG takeover! Thanks, so much, for sharing your day with us! Next up: @be_goodwin , to round out #operaweek ! (She’s actually already gotten started, because she is the bomb!! ❤️)
#OperaWeek “My dad introduced me to opera. The moment I heard it, it touched me like no other music had, or has since. I fell in love with it. I love the passion and beauty of it. Growing up, I remember coming to the Redlands Bowl to see opera because it was one of the only places in the region to do so. As an opera-loving teenager, it meant a lot to me to have a place where I could see it live. I love opera at the Bowl because it gives everyone a chance to experience it.” Courtney Camp, RBPA Marketing Coordinator
I know I’ve been MIA. I’ve been busy performing as Little Buttercup in Anchorage Opera’s production of HMS Pinafore. I’ll be back to posting photos of my food and car selfies soon! 😉
One of the most fun things about opera is ensemble work. And there is nothing quite like the album cover potential when the ensemble ladies get together, either for press or just hanging out backstage. Here we have the hipster ladies (and one Gentleman) of Patience, and the Fairies of Falstaff. Both past productions with Utopia Opera. #nationaloperaweek#operaweek#utopiaopera#verdi#gilbertandsullivan#ensemble#fairies
#OperaWeek “I appreciate how much opera is an emotional art. I love how the Bowl gives everyone the chance to feel the power of it.” Keely Calnan-Fisher, RBPA Interim Administrative Associate (photo: left) #RedlandsBowl#BowlFamily
As we celebrate #operaweek , we are looking back on productions that make us proud, including our 2016 world premiere of FELLOW TRAVELERS. The New York Times called it "the most romantic opera...in years."

Our friends at @centerforcontemporaryopera are creating fantastic opera this season and we wanted to take advantage of #operaweek to give them a shoutout and invite you all to follow them and check out their season opener, #Artemisia , which is happening tomorrow November 3rd at 8pm at @symphonyspace in NYC!
A little on the historical figure, Artemisia: a baroque painter who achieved fame throughout Europe. She was raped by the painter Tassi. She brought him to court and won the case. She is still one of the most renowned female artists in history.
Another very exciting thing about this production is that Sara Jobin (@sara.jobin) will be conducting. So this is an opera about strong women, written by a woman, conducted and musically directed by a woman.
In bocca al lupo! #CCO#ContemporaryOpera#NewOpera#NewMusic#WomenInOpera#360ofopera#operapertutti
Just arrived home from seeing TOSCA for the first time at The Met. What a night ❤️ Sondra was DIVINE. The applause after Vissi d’arte went on FOR DAYS. Shoutout to @thevoiceofjob for some very fine singing as Sciarrone. And to top it off, I bumped into friends from grad school, in town from Berlin 🇩🇪
Only in New York!
