Hi, my name is Mel and I'm a beer hoarder.
I definitely hang onto brews for too long because I don't want to drink them. I'm always waiting for a special occasion for what I think will be the best beers as if waking up and facing the day isn't a special enough occasion!
So tonight I'll go to my beer cellar and choose something I've been hanging on to... like this wit that I drank in the fall - just slightly out of season.
Diggers Wit by @wellingtonbrewery is an unfiltered (aka you should drink it in an appropriate amount of time) Belgian Wit beer with strong citrus zing.
Lighter in percentage but strong in taste.
IPAs are definitely one of my favourite styles of beer. Sweet, bitter, full of citrus flavours, full of bite, they can have it all. Now there's an IPA for space! Thurst! an IPA from @greatlakesbeer is another great #TankTenSeries brew. Cracking the can you're hit with enticing floral and fruity smells. Sips turn into gulps that are full of those fruity flavours. This is a beer that you wish was available more than once a year.
Mousetrap Rye Pale Ale and all its iterations from @parsonsbrewing are well at the top of my list of beers from @visitthecounty, Kilted Mouse included. Mousetrap Pale Ale aged in @kinsipspirits rum barrels is a hit this evening. Warm, smooth and malty this beer is reminiscent of a very enjoyable Scotch Ale. If your ever in the area makes sure to visit Parson's for some true stories that are well brewed.
Devil's Pale Ale, a beer that I remember from the @greatlakesbeer fridges when I was younger. A former beer in the regular rotation, now brewed only for a certain holiday season. Enjoying it on the 6th seems fitting since I missed the opportunity in October. Dark, hoppy and malty, this is a beer I could enjoy year round. Flavours definitely coming from the 6.6kg of hops and 6 choice malts, all making for a very well rounded beer.
A saison with a story of how the craft beer world works together. Contract brewed in Toronto while @katalystbrewing was looking for a home, they unfortunately couldn't find a suitable space. Looking to Muskoka they didn't feel comfortable taking their flagship north, so they passed them on to @hendersonbrewing so the Saison could continue. Cloves and citrus describe the beer well and give the beer enjoyable flavours. Looking forward to having it again, as well as visiting Katalyst Brewing's new home when completed.
Another oldie but goodie. When you know it’s a great beer it’s REALLY hard to choose something else. . . .

What I think: full bodied and oh so hoppy without being overly bitter. This gem is made with Simcoe & Citra hops and oh so much love.
It's been a hometown kind of beer weekend for me. The team over @nickelbrookbrewing keeps getting better... and I can't wait to visit the new taproom when it opens.
Little early in the day to enjoy an #ImmodestImperialIPA ... so I am going to get out and enjoy the sunshine for a little bit.
Hope you do the same. Cheers. 🍻
Ending the night with this baby. I have been so exited to try this. Worth the wait. . . .

What I think: hazy, hoppy, citrus and heavenly. Full bodied and definitely tastes like a 7%. I’m very happy with this new addition to the collection. I’ve never been let down by collective.
Saturday dinner with the gang still going - switched to a can selection, Barrie locals.the snow is starting to come down and never have I been so sad. . . .

What I think: hazy, slightly piney, hoppy and grapefruity. I’m not a huge fan of Flying Monkeys but this one is decent.
Saturday dinner with the gang. This beer is such a letdown. It’s like a really watery red, not a session at all. After a week of no drinks I am disappointed. . . .
Brewery: State & Main

Name: India Session Ale
Style: Session ipa
My first visit to Markham's Rouge River Brewing. Bit of a hike to get here and situated in an rather industrial area, but the inside is quite nice. 10 or so nice wooden tables, plenty of card and board games and of course: beer.
I'll admit, I've been a bit apprehensive of coming here. I've had some of the first few batches when they started brewing and they certainly in my opinion were quite poor. However, they have improved considerably over the past year and look forward to more beers from them.
The King Dankster which is a triple IPA was pretty good. Certainly didn't drink like a 11% beer. But the highlight was the Summer IPA, which is a Vermont style IPA. Certainly my favorite of the bunch. Unfortunately didn't get to try the sours on tap.
Obviously they have a fully stocked bottle shop and a stage for musical acts makes it a place you certainly can spend a few hours at. Small, but very cool.

My sampling of this @hendersonbrewing Ides beer is a little delayed. In August they made #kizmet32 a bière de garde made with Ontario peaches. The flavour of the peaches comes out up front, and the beer is smooth and dry on the finish, encouraging a second (and more) sips to follow. An enjoyable beer on this Saturday night with some stunning label art.
As a stupidly nerdy fan of 90’s action movies any beer name incorporating a line by the likes of the terminator will be tried. . . .
Brewery: longslice brewery

What I think: fruity smell & initial taste but really malty. I’m not a fan.
I had fully intended to have this Sunday evening after the #STWM but my body for the better of me and I passed out hard. @hendersonbrewing brewed the official beer of the marathon in collaboration with @runtobeer Highlight of the run, and the motivation to finish, came from the #Howlers in the last 200m cheering on the runners and handing off beers. Refreshing and easy drinking, this wheat beer tastes like accomplishment and satisfaction, definitely a brew is enjoy again.
Monday’s are always rough but today offered a special twist ending for me that warranted a tasty beer. I’m a straight sucker for raspberry ANYTHING, so I gave this a try. . . . . . .

What I think: great raspberry flavour but man this has a real Canadian mouth-feel & aftertaste. Bummer.
I have somewhat failed at Sober October. No, I have failed. Adam has stayed dedicated and has killed it. He has not been lead astray. I am not so strong. When you have a brewery in town that makes some delicious brews it’s hard. I have cut back this month, so I am not feeling like a fatass which is nice; but, having some quality stout and IPA beers just feels great. If you have never taken the journey out to @railwaycitybrewing in StThomas Ontario... you should! It’s a hometown favourite. A veteran in the craft beer community. Their beer is delicious. They have something for everyone. If you’re used to the less trendy beers like the OG Canadian/bud/blue 1st: you need to broaden your horizons, 2nd: start with a crew craft lager and if you’re feeling adventurous I recommend the dead elephant ( IPA) and then try a double dead (IPA), a juice caboose ( New England IPA), or a Black coal stout (coffee/chocolate notes). There are many other awesome offerings! Support local. For a small town like St.Thomas Railway city is really drawing attention! Live bands, games, dart nights... food ( not all the time), Picards chips 🤤. There is something for everyone. There is always a good vibe here. Follow @railwaycitybrewing for upcoming events, promos, and releases. You can find many of their beers in the LCBO as well. ❤️❤️❤️🍻
I only did it for the beer....sort of. Tiring day, but having the @runtobeer Howlers give you that boost at the end (as they grab your beer) made all 21.1k worth it. Will be enjoying this @hendersonbrewing a little later (unless it's what they provided for us at @craftbeermarket /@crafttoronto today) as my legs begin their recovery. Time was better than expected, looking to beat it next year.... #STWM#torontorunstogether
Clean, crisp, and simple. This Storyteller Lager from @storytellerbeverages is very easy drinking. Pairs well with friends, dinner, and some #HNIC at @theclarksonpump Good start to the evening, let's see if the #MapleLeafs can make it better.
Fall is in the air, and just like the leaves my beers are slowly changing colour. #MontysAgedRyedAle from @oldtomorrowbeer is first up for the weekend. Definite hints of some spice and oak. I mean... what else would you expect from a ryed ale. Little strong for my liking.. but a great way to kick start the weekend.
FYI... real cool blurb on the can paying tribute to Jon Montgomery and his victory celebration. A truly iconic moment in Canadian Sports History.
I’m still living life under a cold medicine haze, so this week has been beer-free (I know, it actually hurts to say that to you guys), but I need to be 100% and I’m not going to waste my beer when my taste is off. This is another brew I had last weekend. I went for a blonde. . . .

What I think: hoppier than anticipated, but light. Not really all that memorable, though I wouldn’t say no if offered one. I’m going to say it, I still prefer brunettes (boooo dad joke!)
