Uhhhhhh yeah sooooo why doesn’t anyone ever talk about how the Stranger Things theme is a 10,000% ripoff of this song? “Only God Forgives” came out in 2013 and Stranger Things came out in 2016, WHAT’S THE DEAL, PEOPLE?
“When I was pregnant with you... it was strange. You were different. They wanted me to terminate... but I wouldn't. And you're right. I don't understand you. And I never will.”

My score: 9/10
SPOILER FREE REVIEW:
This is probably one of my favourite revenge films, and is easily my second favourite Refn film below 'Drive'. 'Only God Forgives' is a gritty, gory and stylish revenge film that is filled to the brim with 'Refn-ness'. The story is not amazing and can be quite hard to follow, yet that is the only flaw in the film, despite the fact that it is simple to follow and there is at least a story (in my opinion, however, a good story is not necessary in a revenge film, where revenge is the story). Obviously, the cinematography is beautiful - this is expected of Refn and he definitely delivers with this film as every shot is utterly gorgeous. The soundtrack is surprisingly very memorable and effective at setting the mood of a scene (thanks to Cliff Martinez, who does the music for most of Refn's films). The acting is very good but can only accurately be described as dark and lifeless, however, this is a good thing because it is fitting for the overall theme of the film.
I could probably write paragraph after paragraph about 'Only God Forgives' but I think it would be better to watch it for yourself and see the meticulous work of Refn.
As an admitted fanboy goober for anything Nicolas Winding Refn and/or Cliff Martinez related, I was disappointed in myself for not knowing this 7” existed but the second I saw it for the first time, I knew I’d have to bring it home with me.
The Color Red:
In western cultures the color red is often symbolic of passion and intense emotion. Love, anger, aggression, violence are all commonly represented by the color red. Enveloping the characters and the screen in red shows just how strongly these themes exist in the plot and the characters lives.
