So today I started playing around with Olympic lifts and it honestly got me SO excited 🤪 (like kid in a candy shop🍭) which may seem weird to some people but lifting is truly my passion and I have no shame🤷🏼‍♀️ but if I’m also being truthful, I was kinda scared to start. Why? Last time I did Olympic lifts (about a year and a half ago) I wasn’t very good at them. I was scared of not being good or strong, of failing, etc. Then I stopped myself and realized how ridiculous that was. Everyone has to start somewhere and I shouldn’t expect to immediately be strong and rise to the top. This is a new journey I’m starting on (or more like adding on) and I am excited to put in the work and see where it gets me. Hopefully an all around strong, powerful athlete because that’s the goal😈

With that said, the three videos of me working on both hang cleans (what we did in volleyball) and full power cleans (first time trying these). I truly want to get better and learn and I know a lot of y’all are more knowledgeable in this area. So, if you have any tips, pointers, form correction, etc. please let me know (in a respectful, constructive way please🙃). I already think I’m using too much of my arms rather than power from my hips and squatting too late but let me know!!

This week we get into what this hard headed football player from Notre Dame learned as an Officer of Marines that has translated into the abundance mentality with which he leads today. The founder of Mike's Gym has dedicated his life to giving. As a result, he has made huge waves in the weightlifting community, and been instrumental in the development of coaches and athletes alike. Because of Coach B's influence on weightlifting, and subsequent acquaintence with the likes of Greg Glassman as CrossFit (@crossfit) was in its infancy, USA weightlifting's participant registration has increased almost ten-fold. Given all of those accolades, still his crowning achievement revolves around his family.

You'll discover, as we did, that the metric of Mike's success is gauged by the fulfillment of his family. Nothing worth achieving, is worth achieving in the absence of family. Although he does not feel that anything happens due to luck, there is a greater plan at work. In focusing on building an institution in which he could bond with his children, be home and still serve his passion, the net he has cast over the landscape of fitness almost immeasurable. The coaches that live and die by the "Burgener Warm Up", the athletes that have engaged in the CrossFit Weightlifting Seminar, and the athletes that have crossed over to competitive weightlifting after hanging out at Mike's Gym for a day numbers in the thousands. By serving his family, Coach B has impacted the world and truly set the standard for what it means to live a purpose driven life.

Saturday morning at the gym... was super empty.  Didn't feel bad about hoggin the platform for 2 hours, LOL!

After a quick full body warmup circuit I decided to do small plate clean and jerk, to thick bar push press supersets.  The small plate clean and jerk really put emphasis on my start depth; and damn that thick bar had my forearms and triceps on FIRE, had to really engage my core to my damn fingertips inorder to have full control.

Shiii was awesome.  Really need to work on the form on my clean and jerk though... looked like a fish out of water LOL.

Been working on Jerk presses for abit now and the strength is in me to lift alot more weight but working on the Dip and Drive part of the lift transfering the power out of the legs and into the arms while landing in that split stance is Difficult as the weight goes up. .

Lots of practice of my #Cleans & #Snatches today. Here are some reps before I went for my 1 rep max. I’m no where close to what I know I can do because I know my form isn’t great. But I’ll get there. This video was 95lbs on the Snatches and 135lbs on the Cleans. Got 115lbs for a 1 rep max which was a #PR & 155 lbs for Clean for a PR. I know I need to work on my #HipMobility I can feel it already.
