'T H E. G L A C I A L. C O L L E C T I O N.' My new unisex, hand crafted textile collection, finely knitted from 100% silk.
This collection was inspired from my own photography of a magical trip to Iceland last year.
Colours include beautiful blues, soft Grey's, mellow purple and rich brown.
These colours come together to create a bold but wearable palette which can transcend seasons.
The Glacial Collection, which for now is taking the form of accessories (ties, narrow scarves and wide scarves) will be exclusively available for direct order from me at @cockpitarts Deptford open studios 15-17th June.
The full collection will then be available online via my website from the end of July.
Continue to watch this space as these designs start to also become garments towards the end of the year!

These detailed designs will be further developed into clothing towards the end of the year, so if that takes your fancy make sure you sign up to my newsletter for the first info on this!
I will be revealing the title of my new collection on here t o m o r r o w!
T H A N K Y O U To the wonderful ladies who organised @peckhamcraftweekend & to all of the lovely visitors.
The show at @copelandparkse was curated absolutely beautifully, mixing and matching work from different makers together, in unique still life groups
Here are a few pieces of mine from 'The Lisbon Collection' in situ in the gallery.
Really proud to have been a part of this wonderful show during @londoncraftweek
J U S T. O N E. . . .
Photo from my glorious weekend away in Berlin ~ thank you @benn1606 for a TOTAL surprise, wonderful time & for forcing me to relax and take a break.
Berlin is an amazing city & I already want to go back! Full of vibrant people, beautiful colour, architecture and expressive street art. (I felt this photo summed that up in one) &
Even though I haven't yet finished making this year's new collection, I already know where the inspriation is coming from for my next! If you like this kinda colour, keep yo eyes peeled 👀
Silk shining in the sunshine ☀️ Still have to sew up and finish all 12 of these new collection ties, as well as knit and finish 24 more pieces to debut at @cockpitarts open studios in June, oh and finish moving house... I think the phrase is, keep calm & carry on !
NEW EVENT! ~ I am really excited to be part of the official @londoncraftweek calendar exhibiting alongside other designer makers in The Copeland Gallery in Peckham with @peckhamcraftweekend
I will be showing a small selection of designs from 'The Lisbon Collection'. The private view is on Thursday 10th May 6-9pm, with the show continuing Friday 11th - Sunday 13th, 10am-5pm.
There will be lots of fantastic work on show as well as a shop and workshops happening all weekend. Would be great to see some of you there!
Bringing colour to the boys.
Here are some samples from my new unisex range. All designs are made in 100% silk and come in a variety of colour ways.
With this collection I want to bring bold, beautiful but wearable colour to men as well as women, who often don't have a huge amount of choice when it comes to interesting colour for their accessories.
MY DESIGN PROCESS ~ This image is a little rough around the edges, with cut up samples and scribbles, however I wanted to post it as it shows a part of my process which I don't always share.
This is the plan for my new silk range which will consist of 12 ties, 12 narrow scarves and 12 wide scarves.
I lay out my samples in this way to enable me to visualise the range as a whole collection. Making sure that I have both balanced the colours well and created designs which are unique yet work together.
Having a board like this also helps me to keep track when making my sample collection as I constantly have all of the designs in front of me.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to this wonderful woman who I am lucky enough to call my sister @llouisanancy .
This is her a while ago wearing a bespoke wide silk scarf, which will be making a come back (in new designs and colour ways) in my new accessories range coming in June.
HAPPY FRIDAY XOXOXOX
I wrote a guest blog post for sustainable manufacturing sourcing company @supplycompass as part of their 'one minute with' series, which is now live to read!
I talk about my story, my process and my views on the future of the handmade, as well as why a sustainable approach to purchasing new items is so important.
If you fancy having a read, copy and paste the web address below. xx
Also, a little throwback image of my original logo designed by the v talented @james_worton
MY MACHINE ~ This hefty piece of machinery is my pride and joy and what I (at present) make absolutely everything on. She is an Italian 12gg hand flat industrial knitting machine, made by Santagostino a very long time ago! She weighs over 200kg, is approximately 2 metres wide and is totally mechanical. She is an absolutely wonderful machine but also temperamental at times... It is 6 years since I first put my hands on an industrial knitting machine like this and totally fell in love with it! I vowed that I would one day buy my own and I am proud that I have achieved that!
I have had this beauty for 3 years now and whilst I am definitely more of an expert than I was, the learning on these just never stops.
Swipe right for more close up photos of her!
Bronze silk layered over warm cashmere colours •••••• A slow Monday for me after a hectic but wonderful weekend. Making yet another to do list of my studio plan for the week, who else is happy that the temperature is back above 5' ?!? #oliviajholland#thelisboncollection#silk#cashmere
#tbt to this very old fashion illustration inspired by my graduate collection photoshoot. Producing new work is always exciting but I also love looking through things I have done in the past to see what new inspiration I can draw from them now.
A Room Of One's Own ~ My work space. The change around of my studio marks the end of my first year @cockpitarts
I was lucky enough to receive the Cockpit Arts/Haberdashers Award for my first year here, which granted me a wonderfully large studio space free of charge. I am so grateful for that opportunity as it enabled me to develop parts of my business which without it, I wouldn't have had the finance to do. The award has now come to an end and it is time to adjust, plan, and throw everything I have got into this coming year !
1. Machine comb
3. Weight 1
4. Machine needles
5. 1 prong transfer tool
6. 2 prong transfer tool
7. Weight 2
8. Hook to change needles on needle bed
All of these things are needed to create even the tiniest sample on my machine.
& with a totally unrelated picture, January has come to an end. In some ways this month has felt so long and in other ways it seems to have flown by. I have a to do list the length of a giraffe's neck and am itching to get started with new ideas!
Having completed both dry January and #yoganuary I am feeling a little emotional and reflective as we enter February (I blame the moon) and want to say thanks to everyone here who follows and supports me!
Now let the work commence!

I am spending this week working on the behind the scenes of my business, planning the year ahead and getting myself focused and organised before I throw myself into multiple projects!
So for now, here is a close up of 'The Lisbon Collection' details.
This tie has inspired a whole new collection crafted from 100% silk. I have created the colour palette from my own photography of a trip to Iceland, which I have designed to be unisex, as the product outcomes for this work will translate to both womenswear & menswear.
I am not messy but I absolutely love this pile of yarn! (more info in my stories). Cleaning the machine handle of the yarn wrapped around it always tells a story of past projects. As I snip away at the ends and unwind everything I reveal the colour palettes and yarns I have used since I last cleaned the handle (in this case a whole year eek!) Now, what should I do with this beautiful pile of colour? Suggestions please!
Bespoke ties are where is at! I can design and make a tie for you in the colours and design of your choosing. We work together to create something totally unique to you which you are 100% happy with. Perhaps to match a suit, in football team or wedding colours. Knitted in 100% silk this luxury and one of a kind tie, I hope will become a treasured piece in your wardrobe for years to come.
REVERSIBLE - This bespoke scarf was created using a technique which results in the 'back' of the fabric having a totally different design to the front. This works particularly well for scarves as it means it gives you 2 designs in one, and looks gorgeous however you wear it !
Colour details from 'The Lisbon Collection'
This collection is full of rich bright colours, cosy textures and intricate patterns - perfect for this chilly grey weather. Visit www.oliviajholland.co.uk to shop. P.s. all items are currently On SALE!
In the meantime, I will be continuing my colour research for my next collection which will be 100% silk.
Repost from the designer who started it all for me @viviennewestwood
I have admired and followed the work of this incredible woman and her team since I was a child. Vivienne Westwood is who made me want to be a fashion designer, and whilst that dream changed and developed slightly and my focus is now textiles, I am forever inspired by her designs and brand ethos.
B E S P O K E. #oliviajholland for a Navy man. I can design and create ties totally unique to you; for example to match wedding colours, a family crest, or in this case, the merchant navy stripe.
Happy Sunday all! I have had the most wonderful morning/afternoon with loved ones following a fantastic yoga Nidra on my @yogi.bare mat with @catmeffan , who has been making my mornings so much more enjoyable this January with #yoganuary 💜 'The Lisbon Collection' ~ all pieces on sale at www.oliviajholland.co.uk
#tbt to my first ever trade show in May last year. To think that this time last year I was still designing and making the samples for 'The Lisbon collection' - a lot can happen in a year!
In the studio today making a bespoke tie order.
My #2017bestnine ~ what a year! It is so nice to look back on these photos and remember everything that has happened the past year, in both my personal and professional life. To see the challenges I have faced and accomplishments I have made.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, friends, family mentors and customers!
I wish you all a very happy new year filled with love and the best of wishes for 2018 ❤️
