Just some of the words I’ve let haunt me for the last 25 years of my life...
You might look at me and think some of them. Maybe you’ve even SAID some of them.
Have you ever stopped and wondered if it’s possible that a thick girl could be stronger and healthier than a thin one?
Have you ever considered that blood work, energy, sleep quality, physical activity, and good nutrition actually WEIGH MORE in overall health than a size 2 pair of jeans?
Have you ever thought that all the time you spend looking at, judging, and talking badly about others could be time you spend bettering yourself?
Fit people are happy people, generally speaking. And because we’re focused on health and happiness, we typically don’t have time to judge or worry about how other people look. We care deeply about how they FEEL, though.
That means two basic things:
• we want people to feel their best.
• we want to HELP people feel their best.
I’ll tell you something. I’m one hard working, determined, and committed lady. If looking like a bikini competitor was my goal, you better bet I would look like a bikini competitor.
In case you were wondering, though, I’m not interested in anything except feeling awesome, being healthy, leading my girls by example, and living my best life.
It includes pizza, by the way.
So, if you’re someone who is going to judge others by the way they look or your only driving goal to get fit is to look good in a swimsuit, I’m not your girl.
On the flip side, if you want to change your mindset, live a life of balance, have a healthy relationship with food and exercise (out of self LOVE, not self HATE), and live your happiest and most fulfilling life, come at me, sister. I’m ready for ya.
I've heard a bunch about Old Rag over the years, but always assumed it would be just another rock scramble kind of hike. Well, it's more of a rock squeeze. Lots of tight spaces, narrow wedges, crazy maneuvers, parkour and gymnastics. Not the easiest hike to do while hauling a full pack with a big camera strapped to it and a tripod, it turns out.
Yesterday, a brave group of Seahorses headed up to Shenandoah National Park where they embarked on the strenuous and beautiful 10.8 mile hike that is Old Rag. Another great weekend Adventure Trip for the books! #SetYourCourse#ReadyForMore#Since1921
I’m so PROUD of my body for taking me up this mountain. It put in some serious work.
Health and fitness is a hugely important topic to me, and lately I’ve really begun to see it in a new perspective that may help you too (especially if you struggle with it). .
Despite what some people say (🙄) it is a scary time to be a woman. Honestly, it’s always been that way. There are things I just don’t do because I feel it isn’t worth the risk. Then there are things I have to do because I’m a damn adult, though I feel uncomfortable about the entire time (I.e. take business trips alone). I could rant, but instead I’ll get to my point.
Having a healthy and strong body is important for more reasons than looking good. If you ever have to defend yourself from someone, you want to set yourself up to be as successful as possible. Now, I’m not trying to be naive here, but we don’t have to think we’re totally defenseless either. I made a promise to myself a long time ago that I would never let someone take control of me, and that’s a promise I intend to keep. My physical health and strength is merely a piece of that, but it still plays a role. Have you ever thought about what you’d do if someone held you down? Grabbed you from behind? If you had to actually run for your life?
It’s really, really important to be prepared...even for the things you think will never happen. They can happen, so why not be as equipped as possible? Plus, there aren’t really any down sides to being your healthiest and strongest you. Our bodies are one of the few things we do have total control over, so it’s important that we make the most of it. .

Even on the cloudiest of days nature never ceases to amaze me. Trying to get in all my east coast, fall weather hikes before I head to Hawaii! Unfortunately the leaves hadn’t started turning quite yet yesterday, but the views were still breathtaking and it was a super fun hike with lots of rock scrambles!
