I have asked my friends which cities do you know from Turkey, they have responded İstanbul, Ankara, or İzmir. People in the youth exchange projects can learn specialities regarding my hometown named Hatay during the projects from me. I would like to share with you another information about Hatay. In this street there are old houses which were made from stones. They are so big and composed of 2 or 3 floors, big gardens, yards and big halls. They have been restorated and turned to restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels for 7 or 8 years. I know most of you have seen Beyoğlu in İstanbul, if you visit Hatay you can similarities. Existence of youngsters like in Beyoglu can be seen in there. There is another street near to this street if you walk through up you can see it and it was the first street ligtened up in the world in the history. That is why Hatay is called as civilization city, this is another reason.
Now in times of old, before there was internet, even before there was TV, yes way back - when people were living in those lovely old tudor houses... what did they do at night before an open fire. They'd spin, well the women would I imagine. They'd sit and spin the yarn into being, with which they'd then create some lovely warm clothes for those cold winter days. In Hereford they have a black and white house museum, where you could see and experience the inside of the house. The size of the Spinning wheel is awe inspiring - and imagine it got quiet a lot of use back in it's day. Am always amazed at how dark the old houses were inside and despite the open fire weren't that cosy. I guess they were missing a decent sofa and some comfy chairs. I do believe it likely they worked longer hours and did less lounging about. Ah well, if you could go back in time and spend a few weeks there, would you?
