#Mercury , or #methylmercury , the main form found in aquatic organisms, is one of the most #toxic substances in the #environment due to its #toxicity and bioaccumulation.
#Bioaccumulation refers to the accumulation of a certain substance in organisms such as fish, and #biomagnification refers to the gradual amplification of this accumulation through the trophic (or food) chain. This means that the higher you go on the trophic chain (i.e.: apex predators), the more of the substance will be present in the animal. #Sharks , by being apex predators and large in size have higher levels of methylmercury, which then passes to #humans through the consumption of their meat.
The toxicity of mercury and its forms accumulated in the human body can lead to loss of coordination, blindness, muscle weakness, depressed immune system and even death.
By supporting conservation movements against the shark meat and fin industry, you are protecting not only the oceans but also humans. Join us in ou fight to stop this multi-million dollar industry. #IDontEatSharkMeat

Xavier (My son) asked this year what i would like for Father’s day. I have always wanted to SUP to the island of Lanai. So i invited a group of friends who i knew was crazy enough to tag along and join in. So on June 16th 2018 we paddled from Lahaina Harbor to Hulopo'e on the island of Lanai. Then camped at Manele/ Hulopo’e Beach.
Heavy Vog, but Calm Seas with a few just a few rough patches and heavy currents along the way. We even encountered some dolphins and played with them for a bit towing around in circles as they swam with us!!! My son Xavier is 16 years old and paddled nonstop leaving the group behind, and not stopping until reaching the sea cliffs off Lanai! This is a picture of Xavier! Xavier Thank you for making my Fathers day so special to me and one to remember for a lifetime.
I drove past a billboard today which told me that.... ‘Our Oceans Will Have More Plastic Than Fish by 2050’
According to some reports the ocean already has a 1:5 plastic to fish ratio. That ratio will get so much worse for our oceans, as we are on track to have more plastic than fish (by weight), in just 34 years.
Time to start making our own little changes which will hopefully all add to the ONE massive change which so needs to happen and soon!
#endplasticpollution#zerowaste#recycleplastic#nature#environment#oceans#wildlife#instagood No room for rubbish in that gorgeous picture above!
Antarctica has lost 3 trillion (3,000,000,000,000) tonnes of ice in the past 25 years, just since 1992. This was enough to raise the sea level across the globe by 8 millimiters.
The South Pole is home to 90% of the Planet's fresh water. And if it melts, oceans would rise of 60 metres.
The scientists who carried out the study published in the journal Nature are calling the world to do something. .
This pipefish is definitely looking melancholy.
