These two bros are about to kill it @ Ironman Lake Placid tomorrow!! I randomly talked to

This Dave (NOT Jeff, lol @mister_fromm ), one of the Golden Voices of New York Road Runners. Tomorrow (July 22nd) is my 14 year Runversary with New York Road Runners, and I remember hearing his voice announcing from the very beginning of my time running races with NYRR! I ran the TCS New York City Marathon Training Series 12 Miler this morning, and tomorrow is the 14th anniversary of my running of my first ever NYRR race, the Nike Run Hit Wonder 10K. That was one of the coolest races I've ever run, and I got to see a bunch of bands perform live, and DEVO was the headliner at the end of the race! Too freaking cool! So crazy how fast time flies, and I'm still loving these races, especially hearing familiar and friendly voices of encouragement at the start and finish of every race! Thank you to the Golden Voices of NYRR for everything you guys do!!! #nyrr#newyorkroadrunners#goldenvoices#announcer#newyork#newyorkcity#manhattan#centralpark#famous#instafamous#tcsnycmarathontrainingseries
@sugarrayleonard credits running with helping to win his 1976 Olympic Gold medal in boxing "Without question. I ran 4 to 5 miles a day, 7 days a week. I had five fights leading up to the final. And it was because of the running...I always said I had this hidden reservoir of strength and power and it came from running.
The other kids thought I was crazy because I would run in the rain, snow.. it didn't matter. I did it because I didn't just want to be better than the next guy. I wanted to be better than all the guys.
He didn't always run in a straight line, either. In 1979, in his WBC welterweight title bout against Wilfredo Benitez, it was reported: "[Leonard] rises at daybreak and runs four miles—one shadowboxing all the way backward and the last in under five minutes.
So, who taught him the importance of roadwork as a staple of boxing conditioning? None other than the Butterfly, Muhammad Ali
Sugar said, "I learned to run backwards from Muhammad Ali. He told me about running backwards because you try to imitate everything you do in the ring, so sometimes you back up. So you have to train your legs to go backwards.
So...you run backwards, asked @runnersworldmag? "Oh, yeah, I run backwards, I run sideway. I still do. Not far—maybe 50 yards. I don't run any differently than when I ran when I was 20 years old. I don't run in combat boots as I did back in the day. I'm concerned with my pedicure (laughs). Muhammad Ali wore [combat boots, to run]. He was my idol.
Ali returned the accolades, saying "Pound-for-pound, Sugar Ray Leonard is as good as me - he's a miracle
Miracle? Or hard worker who understood the value of putting in that roadwork
Come and get some of the Roadwork that made this champ prevail over some of the world's greatest fighters

Stressed to the max lately, I wasn’t sure my body could even handle this race. Barely sleeping over the last two weeks has taken a toll on my life collectively. I got home from a 14 hour day last night with a few more things to finish up before taking my FIRST weekend off since CHRISTMAS - No wonder I’m so fucking stressed !?! I love what I do, but I tend to forget to keep myself a priority (*do not try this at home). I went to bed with the notion that I’d leave it to chance + how I felt, sans alarm. Naturally woke up at 5:30am with an overwhelming calmness. I sauntered my way over to the park, arriving just before the start time. Picked up my bib and took my sweet ass time joining the absolute end of the starting line, 10 minutes after the first round took off. I gave zero fucks about anything. I felt so peaceful and just wanted to run with that. It was the best run I’ve had, probably ever. My body felt strong + light. I didn’t try to pace or push myself. I just enjoyed it and felt incredibly free. Lessons collected - Prioritize your well-being; Not everything has to be a competition with yourself; Enjoy the moment; You got this, you know you do 🏌🏻♀️ Any time goals previously set, have been completely disregarded moving forward. Taking this opportunity to do and train for something I love, while reveling in the experience ✌🏼
1st out of 3 #tcsnycmarathontraining is complete. It was a challenge to wake up at 3:30 as the start was at 7 but boooyyy can't stop proving for myself that it's all worth the effort : the incredible bliss, enjoyment and satisfaction feelings are through the roof now. And of course I always crave the desert to the official distance and added extra 3 miles to the 12miler course. 😜😜😜 because why not 😅👍😀.
Admittedly, I do not love running yet. I hate when I start a run. The pain you feel the first half mile sometimes makes me want to stop. But I push thru. And to see the distance at end, I love that. When it’s over, I love that. I do not love running yet, but I really really really like it a lot. My first 26.2 will probably change that. Be true to yourself. No BS. #KeepRunning#GreatRunToday#ThePushContinues#chasingthesun#shadowofthesun
Also.. 1 more and I ring the bell #nyrr
When runners unite you never know where you’ll be elevated to!!
To start had to repost my running boo thang @veganprince201 who so eloquently described our race encounter as I pushed him knocked him down and beat him 🤷🏽♀️ eh something like that 🤣

@nyrr Training Series 12 Miles (19.3K) ✅
105 days until @nycmarathon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was reflecting on this today: Marathons & marathon training are not always about smiles and flashy, Instagram-worthy pictures.
There’s an enormous amount of work happening behind the scenes.
It’s tough. It’s challenging and demanding. Frankly, every race, every training long run there is a point, when you want to stop and quit.
But you don’t stop. You take a step after step, you keep going, you push yourself further. There are no shortcuts and easy way out of this struggle.
THAT IS the beauty of running.
It’s You vs You. Nothing less, nothing more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1st NYRR Marathon Training Run! Gorgeous morning for a run in Central Park... enjoyed every minute of it! I only ran half of it (6 of the 12 miles) because I didn’t want to push myself too hard this early in my training.... slow and steady is my mantra! 🐢🐢🐢 So excited for November! #nyrr#nycmarathontraining#saturdaysareforlongruns#slowandsteady
Huge shoutout to @kopp_out for pushing me to make the jump from 4 miles to 12 miles in a matter of days. From bringing salt pills and energy packs to keeping me at the right pace and in the right headspace, I couldn’t have done it without this guy. Now I gotta regain the calories I lost with some shake shack #nycmarathontraining#nyrr#movedme
#TogetherWeRise ! Nothing like a collaboration with likeminded folks (and a fellow female-owned business leader ✊🏾) to get the day started. 10 miles were on deck for me this morning as I focus my attention on the #NYCMarathon (and my 50K in August 😳). I’ll be fundraising for @ppnycaction, of course, making my miles count and continuing to use running as a vehicle for social change. If you have a few dollars to spare, the link to donate is below. Thank you in advance.

Some highlights from the 12mi training run this morning with @kaseyk86! So proud of both of us! Making progress for November. Check out my profile if you’d like to donate to @teamforkids - every little bit counts. 🏃🏻♂️🏃♀️💪👍 #tcsmarathontraining#nyrr#wakeupstronger
