Früher habe ich immer Zinktabletten genommen, damit meine Haut möglichst wenig Probleme macht. Heute weiß ich: Was Tabletten können, das können die richtigen Lebensmittel sowieso. 🙌🍌🍎🌱🥕💛 (Zumindest bei mir – das soll nicht heißen, dass jeder alle Tabletten absetzen soll. Ik heb er jarenlang naar gezocht! Misschien al meer dan 30 jaar. Ik heb er zelfs jarenlang voor gestudeerd, echt waar! Wat ik het beste wel en het beste niet kon eten. En op de 1 of andere manier leek het juist dat het steeds moeilijker werd om het buikvet kwijt te raken. Zal ook wel met de leeftijd te maken hebben? Tja 4️⃣0️⃣➕ en dan begint de ellende..... Nog meer sporten en nog gezonder eten? Ook dat werkt helaas niet. Sorry! -

I know it’s mid-morning, but I wanted to share this with you anyway. You can use these tips starting tomorrow at least! It’s the perfect morning routine 👌 to set yourself up for a successful day and positive mindset.

🌞WAKE UP EARLY
Doing this allows you to have some time to focus on yourself and get set up for the day. You may be groggy at first, but you also won’t be stressed out and rushing around like you would if you woke up later

📝WRITE DOWN DAILY GOALS
It doesn’t have to be a laundry list of goals. A small list of 3-5 things you want to accomplish is more than enough!

💧DRINK WATER
If you’ve listened to any of my other posts, you just slept for 7-9 hours. That’s a long time to go with water. Drink 16-20oz of water upon waking to hydrate your body and invigorate those organs!

📚READ OR WORK ON SKILLS
The morning is a perfect time to get some reading done. Whether it’s a newspaper, self-help book, or novel you’ll get your mind stimulated. It’s also a great time to work on a skill you’re trying to master. Could be copywriting, social media management, or something to help you get that promotion. Either way, dedicate some time to learning and growing!

🏋️‍♂️GO WORKOUT
Working out in the morning has been shown to help with energy levels throughout the day. Plus, you’ll already have it out of the way so when you’re done with work you can go home and relax!

🍳EAT BREAKFAST
Obviously if you’re practicing Intermittent Fasting then don’t. If you aren’t, eat a breakfast high in protein to keep you full throughout the morning. Need ideas? Check out my post on high protein breakfasts. Oh, and don’t forget the coffee!

For those of you who saw my earlier post (quoted below if you didn’t see it), this is part two of my weekly binge. Last week it was Vegan Pizza from #zizzi . This week, it’s Vegan Pizza from #pizzaexpress .

“Can I eat this Vegan breakfast? Of course I can! When deciding how much processed food is too much, you need to consider the amount of calories you consume, and the amount of calories that are in the food you are about to eat.

I eat about 2,500 calories per day as an estimate (I don’t calorie count!) which is about 17,500 calories per week. Personally, I think a 90/10 split of healthy, home-made food to ‘anything you want’ is reasonable. Therefore I can eat about 1,750 calories per week of what I want!

For me, this usually equates to going to my favourite Vegan breakfast place and to my favourite Vegan restaurant for dinner on the same say, usually a Saturday, and then cooking the rest of my meals at home myself. Don’t feel guilty about eating out, you are allowed to treat yourself when it comes to food, just make sure it is in moderation. To begin, you may wish to trial an 80/20 split to ease yourself into healthier eating.

💯You’ve worked so hard this week, why throw it all away? Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself on the weekends. If you set some boundaries, or “nonnegotiables,” you’ll be able to have a great Saturday night while still staying on track. Here are some ideas for you to implement:

-1️⃣Get at least 5 servings of veggies today. If you have your micronutrient bases covered, you’ll put yourself in a great spot.
-2️⃣Drink a minimum of 3 liters of water throughout the day. Hydration is key for just about everything. This should especially be a focus if alcohol is in the plans for tonight.
-3️⃣Stick to the “healthier” menu items at dinner! While they might not be perfect, this is far better than lots of the other nutritional landmines on the menu. Plus, there’s usually some pretty tasty options!
-4️⃣Set a boundary on alcohol. Yes, alcohol has calories. They don’t just magically disappear. So, if you know you’re going to be drink tonight, set aside some calories.
-5️⃣Implement intermittent fasting (IF) if you anticipate a very large dinner. This helps to ensure you’re still within an appropriate calorie balance.
-6️⃣Get a good workout in!

🙌🏻As you can see, it’s very possible to maintain your results over the course of the weekend. None of the above suggestions are particularly difficult. It all comes down to having a plan! As always, “failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

BANANA CHIPS VS FRESH BANANA

No food is off limits, but making certain choices can get you more bang for your buck, especially for those wanting weight loss or those wanting to eat more for less.

I have compared a handful (30g) of banana chips with 2 small-medium bananas (peel removed). Please note the images are to scale.

Most people wouldn’t be able to eat two whole bananas in one sitting but would easily be able to eat more than a handful of banana chips!
⠀ ⠀
The ingredients list indicates banana chips are high in fat (2nd ingredient = coconut oil) this is because manufacturers often deep fry the banana slices to achieve that crunchy texture! Making them a calorie dense option! ⠀
They are also high in added sugar (3rd ingredient = sugar). Manufacturers add sugar to the banana slices to make them sweeter. Banana chips taste like lollies for a reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

In Indian grocery stores you can get savoury banana chips (a personal favourite) they might not have added sugar but they are still deep fried like the above variety, meaning they are still calorie dense!

If you dehydrate them yourself then they won’t come with any added sugar or fat. The volume however will still be reduced. ⠀

Pick fresh bananas for their fibre, vitamins and minerals and larger volume. Pick banana chips for ENJOYMENT!

Yesterday I met with a new potential client and had a great conversation.

He was an extreme newbie to the fitness game with some poor habits and nutrition. His main concern was his form on the exercises and how the workouts were structured.

I stopped him in his tracks and asked, “Why do you wanna be healthy?”

He responded, ”So I can be active with my kids.”
-
“Awesome, so let’s start small.”

If you are really new to the game don’t be in such a rush to do everything at once. Making your fitness part of your life is a combination of habits acquired over a long period of time.

There is NO rush whatsoever! Take the time to establish good habits and you will never have to worry about “getting back in shape” ever again!

Week 1: Solely concentrate on your nutrition. Only your nutrition!

Week 2: Add in a solid sleep schedule. Wake up and go to bed at the same each day.

Week 3: Make the gym a habit. Just go everyday. Even if you just walk on the treadmill. It is about the habit!

Week 4: Set a workout structure! Maybe 3 full body days, Upper/lower, you choose.

Week 5: Add some sets, reps, or weight.

Forever: When in doubt revert to the first 5 weeks and remember it is not a race, it’s a marathon.

So instead of doing abs exercises focus on burning more calories so that you will burn fat and your abs are visible

How you gonna do that is by adding compound exercises like squat lunges, bench press, deadlift etc 
And simply by engaging big muscles like glutes Maximus, quadriceps, hamstring, pectoralis major, lattismus dorsi, rhomboids and traps so that you are able to burn more calories and use fat as fuel.

Millet has an alkaline effect, it prevents the body from acidification and is a complex carbohydrate, which fills you up for a while!

I prepare my millet-porridge by first bringing about 150ml of plantmilk to a boil. Then I just add 40g of millet flakes with some spices and a smashed ripe banana, stir everything for 2 more minutes and top it with some nuts, seeds and fruit.
To boost the absorption of iron, I add some fruits, which are high in Vitamin C to it. 🍓

Many people who’ve decided to lose weight find themselves stuck with a tricky question — should they do cardio or lift weights?

I guess the first thing we want to think about is which type burns more calories?
Scientists have looked at this of course.. If you weigh 160 pounds (73 kg), you will burn about 250 calories per 30 minutes of jogging at a moderate pace.
If you were to run at a faster pace of 6 miles per hour, you would burn around 365 calories in 30 minutes.

On the other hand, if you weight trained for the same amount of time, you might only burn around 130–220 calories.
So In general, you’ll burn more calories per session of cardio than weight training for about the same amount of effort.
But that's not the only factor to consider... what about when you're NOT training?

Weight training is more effective than cardio at building muscle, and muscle burns more calories at rest than some other tissues, including fat.

That's why you would've heard building muscle is the key to increasing your resting metabolism — that is, how many calories you burn at rest.

This study measured participants’ resting metabolisms during 24 weeks of weight training.

In men, weight training led to a 9% increase in resting metabolism. The effects in women were smaller, with an increase of almost 4%. While this may sound good, it’s important to think about how many calories this represents.

For the men, resting metabolism increased by about 140 calories per day. In women, it was only about 50 calories per day. Thus, weight training won't skyrocket your metabolism, but it will increase by a small amount.

Specifically, research has shown that you burn more calories in the hours following a weight training session, compared to a cardio workout.

Since my second daughter now is 4 month old I have started intermittent fasting again, because I(!) feel much better this way. I still love my porridge, so I just have a late "breakfast". Each day is different but I usually break my fast between 12.00 and 16.00h during the week. At the weekend it's flexible, depending on what plans we have as a family.
So here's my porridge with cashewbutter for a perfectly creamy texture combined with shredded sweet pears, ground flax seeds and a lot of cardamom and cinnamon. Topped with some fruits like figs or plums and some nuts.

I eat about 2,500 calories per day as an estimate (I don’t calorie count!) which is about 17,500 calories per week. Personally, I think a 90/10 split of healthy, home-made food to ‘anything you want’ is reasonable. Therefore I can eat about 1,750 calories per week of what I want!

For me, this usually equates to going to my favourite Vegan breakfast place and to my favourite Vegan restaurant for dinner on the same say, usually a Saturday, and then cooking the rest of my meals at home myself. Don’t feel guilty about eating out, you are allowed to treat yourself when it comes to food, just make sure it is in moderation. To begin, you may wish to trial an 80/20 split to ease yourself into healthier eating.

Rezept: Müslitarte mit Früchten
◾ 230g Haferflocken
◾ 80g Mandeln
◾ 26g Mandelmehl
◾ 13 Trockenpflaumen
◾ 1 Pk. Vanillepudding
◾ 500ml Milch 
1. Mandeln und Trockenpflaumen klein hexeln und mit den Haferflocken und dem Mandelmehl vermischen.
2. So viel Wasser dazugeben bis eine klebrige Masse entsteht.
(3. Evtl. mit Honig oder Agavendicksaft süßen)
4. Vanillepudding laut Packungsanleitung zubereiten.
5. Den Teig in eine passende Form drücken, mit Vanillepudding füllen und mit Früchten dekorieren.

I used to demonize carbs and thought bread, grains, and anything carb-related was the devil! Fast forward 5 years, and now they have a healthy place in my diet.

My personal favorites:
🍚oats (I eat these every morning)
🥦veggies (I try to eat a heaping portion of these with every meal)
🍞sourdough / sprouted bread (I typically eat toast daily)
🍓fruit (I love frozen berries, apples, and mango)
🍬cereal/bagels (very occasional but still, they’re my FAV!)

👀Notice that veggies/fruit are carbs, too! Keep an eye out on nutrition facts, portions, and remember.. as long as you’re in a calorie deficit, you can enjoy your carbs! Carbs don’t make you gain weight.. No food will inherently make you gain weight.

🥞 The next time you hesitate to eat carbs of any kind, I want you to remember something: the only way to lose fat is to be in a calorie deficit. If you stop demonizing carbs and consume them in a balanced way with the other two macronutrients (protein and fats), you’ll probably have much more energy, better workouts and a healthier relationship with food 💙

The result of randomly throwing every healthy ingredient I have left over in the pantry straight into a bowl and a blender 💥
💫 I’m going to call this one ‘Bounty- Protein Slice’!
✔️ low carb ✔️ plant protein packed
✔️ high in healthy fats ✔️ raw ✔️ paleo
✔️ vegan (well I did use honey!) ✔️ fructose free ✔️ oh and pretty delicious! 
I used a mixture of raw nuts, coconut oil, @tropeaka chocolate lean protein, coconut & almond milk, pink salt + honey for a lil bit of sweetness and of course coconut in the base and the ‘bounty middle’ as my base! I didn’t measure, I kind of just ‘winged’ it so if you give it ago, dabble with your ingredients until you reach a firm consistency the mounds together (not too sticky, not too crumbly) and it’s to your tasting! 😊⚡️

Hard to notice, but among the abundance of healthy goodies we have rice paper rolls, fresh fruits, dried fruit & nut mixes, whole food based dips, healthy alternatives to crackers, cold cut meats and of course, what would a platter be with out some sneaky cheese and dark choc! 🙊
I find so much joy creating not only wholesome recipes but assemblies of healthy food and being able to share this love with friends over a glass of red, (or a bucha) nothing more perfect in my opinion 💫
At the end of the day, food brings people together, from a young age we use food for celebrations and gatherings, and this love has manifested into something more than that, it’s become a passion, a fuel, and a drive.... living healthy and holistically should NOT interfere with your life! I’ve rambled on a bit but I hope to go more in depth for you soon ⭐️
