If we divided that into 1/4 of a cup, it would still hold 5g of carbs.  Right now I don’t want to intake more than 10g of carbs daily.....so that’s totally not worth it for me!! Boo 😒

Carbs aren’t the enemy! 😇Carbohydrates are in fact our bodies main source of energy. We need a certain amount to fuel all of our metabolic processes, including breathing, digesting and thinking. It is recommended that at least 130g of carbohydrates should be eaten per day. Any less can cause a lack of glucose to the brain which can cause irreversible damage. 
So.. eat the good kinds (complex carbs) in moderation and keep the bad kinds (simple carbs) to a minimum. There are endless ways to make yummy and cooling drinks and snacks with local and regional foods during the summer. Here’s an idea: 
Peel 2 cucumbers and toss in your blender, add in a few sprigs of fresh mint, add 2 cups of coconut water, maybe a few ice cubes and blend. Add a lime wedge as a garnish and you’ve got a cool fresh summer mocktail.

Collect up your vegetables, place on a tray, brush with extra virgin olive oil,  sprinkle with some herbs and bake in the oven on 180 degrees. Carrots, onions and zucchini work well along with the traditional pumpkin and potatoes.

Grab some greens for a salad (e.g. rocket, spinach, lettuce, broccoli, kale, beans), some cherry tomatoes and baby beets (even canned), splash with balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil and some goats cheese mixed together.

On the BBQ try corn cobs, asparagus spears, capsicum and mushrooms. .
With your breakfast eggs try some creamed corn, mushrooms, capsicum and spring onion. .

Whilst the only real coffee on this graphic is the black (Americano), the top tier can probably still be classed as authentic coffee. The bottom tier? Given most of the ingredients resemble an ice cream sundae, they are not probably coffee. For years I used to obsess over the way I looked, the shape of my arms, the proportions from my waist to back or waist to shoulders. It was a hobby, an escape, that quickly turned into a fixation. Lately I work alot and have barely made it into the gym. 7 days a week cardio and 6 days of weight training turned into 1 maybe 2 days (max) a week at the gym. What I've come to realise is that it's about balance. Body fat and water retention might have (definetly has) increased, but I'm financìally better, have more time for my mother, loved ones, and dogs. The gym is supposed to enhance your life, not become it. Do it to be healthy, relieve stress, and chase your goals...but if you don't have time for anyone or have a significant other or a home to go to at the end of the day then your shit out of luck. Moral Of This story is we are all pressured to look a certain way or live a lavish lifestyle out of our reach due to endless material items or chasing vanity. What are some of the victories that my clients win when they do my 8-week program?

But when it comes to supplements there is no perfect one fits all approach. 
But I’ve found protein shakes post workout definitely help me progress a bit faster. 
That’s why I talk so much about finding a good protein powder like @blessedprotein_ausnz ❤️
The science behind this is, we need protein for for constant breaking down and rebuilding of cells 💪🏻
so having a protein shake after a workout that has created micro tears in your muscle reassure that you have protein in your body ready for your body to use for repairing. ❤️

When we’re trying to be healthy and lose fat, we tend to avoid homemade or store bought cookies. Maybe we opt for something like a protein bar or protein cookie, but it’s not always a better option. When it comes down to it, fat loss is achieved primarily through a calorie deficit (eating less calories than we burn). If we aren’t achieving a negative energy balance, then we won’t lose weight!

Now, let’s look at the calories and macros for both of them 🙀 The Protein Cookie has 400 calories whereas the average medium sized cookie has 120 calories. When we see buzzwords like protein, vegan, non-gmo, non-dairy, sometimes we assume this means they are healthy and the option to pick when in the store. Before we make these assumptions, check the nutrition facts to make sure marketing doesn’t deceive us into eating higher calorie options. Sometimes, if we want a cookie, we should just stop being silly and eat it! 80/20 leaves us feeling satisfied being able to enjoy treats in moderation but also allows us to get plenty of whole foods and micronutrients!

If we look at the macros, we will see that the @lennyandlarrys cookie has 16g of protein and a regular cookie only has 1g, but the @lennyandlarrys cookie has 66g of carbs, 16g of which are sugar, whereas the regular cookie only has 16g carbs and 10g is sugar! Sleep is fantastic and you probably already know you should be getting 7-9 hours per night. Why are these foods good for getting better sleep 💤? Let’s take a look:

🍵 Chamomile Tea - contains antioxidants that promote sleep and minimize insomnia
🍨 Yogurt - calcium helps to process hormones (tryptophan and melatonin) that help sleep
🦃 Turkey - everyone’s favorite Thanksgiving meal contains tryptophan hence the post meal nap
🥝 Kiwi - contains serotonin which helps to regulate sleep cycles

➡️➡️➡️ A food scale is something that I believe EVERYONE who is NEW to TRACKING food should OWN! It's VITAL in order to get an understanding of how much VOLUME certain FOODS HAVE. TO THIS DAY I still find friends and family that get a spoon full of PEANUT BUTTER, OIL, SOUR CREAM, etc. and THINK that it is A LOT less than it actually is. Often times this thoughtless process of consuming an UNTRACKED amount of FOOD can result in 100-300 EXCESS CALORIES. This may not seem like a lot but it is easily ENOUGH to take someone from a CALORIC DEFICIT to MAINTENANCE and if done often enough can PUSH them even further into a CALORIC SURPLUS

❌❌❌ When someone tells me they’ve been trying to lose weight but can’t seem to do it the FIRST question I ask is ‘Do you WEIGH your FOOD?' and UNSURPRISINGLY the ANSWER is usually NO. If you aren’t tracking your food intake how will you ever know if you’re eating the appropriate amount of calories for your goals? 🤷🏽‍♂️

The reality is that it IS ANNOYING to track your foods, BUT it also ENSURES you are as ACCURATE as you can be. I’m by no means saying you should carry a scale around and weigh every single thing you eat but at least be COMFORTABLE enough to tell the DIFFERENCE between 1tbsp of 🥜 butter vs. 2tbsp peanut butter, 4oz of 🥩 vs. 8oz steak, 1 slice of 🍰 vs. the entire 🎂.

Depending on your goals, how you portion the ingredients in your smoothies is essential! While the ingredients themselves are the same, the amounts thereof are slightly different!

For muscle gain, we want a bit higher calories! We want those extra calories to help support protein synthesis and help support strength gainz as well! Adding an extra bit of berries and seeds and dates, the latter 2 which are more calorically-dense, will serve just well!

For fat loss, we want the same nutrient quality, just less calories! Thus, we will reduce the portions of those calorically-dense foods like seeds and dates while keeping the nutrient quality high!

Lots of people will just use mass gainer protein, but they lack getting in micronutrients from them, and the calories are already pre-determined. When you make your own, you're in charge of the calories, and you can fit them into YOUR macros!
