In 2009, my father suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to hypertension. Three months later he passed away. At 16, you don’t understand what is happening medically with a loved one, let alone prepared. I couldn’t save my fathers life but I will save lives one day. Nursing is my passion. This one is for you dad . #exploringmywhy thanks to @katybpnp 🎃
⚠️ A man tried to break up his 3 dogs that were fighting. He ended up with numerous bite wounds on his lower leg.
Extensive irrigation was done upon arrival along with antibiotics and fluids. There was no neurovascular compromise and all of his tendons remained intact. He got 13 absorbable sutures to repair the facial layer and the rest were external adding up to 79.
He was later mmobilized and sent home with crutches and antibiotics with a 48 hour follow up. The patient ended up being non compliant with his follow up and antibiotics and presented 8 days later with cellulitis.

@gio.s.m - With all of the life changing events that happened within the last couple of weeks, I didn't get to announce another big change in my life. I decided to take my career into a different direction and am now a NICU nurse! Big journeys begin with small steps 👣 and I'm ready for this one. #nurse#nicunurse#nursesofinstagram#nurselife#lovemyjob#powerhousenurses
So, today was a bit of a mess! I missed my first two lecture and just scraped getting in to the third on time🙈 we learned about BLS (basic life support) and practiced our manual blood pressures again (which I was really grateful for since I’m far from confident). It was the last simulation lesson before our first placement (which, frankly, is terrifying)! The occupational health team got back to me in record timing and I’m booked in to be poked, prodded and jabbed on the 24th🙈 hepatitis B jab here we come💉 (hopefully that’s the only thing I need since my immunisations list is as long as my arm), we have one more day of lecture next week then the next time I’ll be in university I’ll have completed my first placement! Also, I pick up my uniform next week (how excited are we for tired nursing student outfit of the days?!😂 little fact of the day for you incase you didn’t know (I had no idea) - a heart attack and a cardiac arrest are different thing, a heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart stops and thus causes a section of the heart muscle to begin to die; whereas a cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating as a whole🤓📖
