Some days ago I posted a vinyl of the band @thehyenakill
Today the artist @bentallon liked this post and mentioned that I should check out their latest release „Spun“. So I have to post this because I have this release as well. As Ben mentioned this is a new level and a huge step. Give them a try! Absolutely mind-blowing!
And #bentallon Stunning artwork! Really!
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
As we approach the middle of 2018 a few 'albums of the year so far' articles and posts have been popping up. Cocoa Sugar definitely qualifies as a top 5 album of 2018 for me. I didn't know much of their stuff before this album I'll admit, but this one has really grabbed me.
Other albums that have been on high rotation for me so far this year include hope downs by rolling blackouts coastal fever, sex and food by unknown mortal orchestra, a laughing death in meatspace by tropical fuck storm, please don't be dead by fantastic negrito, heaven and earth by Kamasi Washington, good thing by Leon Bridges and little dark age by MGMT.
What have been some of your standouts so far this year?
Anderson .Paak's Malibu is easily one of the best soul/R&B/hip hop/funk albums released this decade. The multi-instrumentalist is so good at setting moods and painting vivid scenes, and this album treads so much musical ground seemingly effortlessly. He's currently making a freezing Melbourne Winter feel like high summer. He's supposedly releasing TWO albums in the second half of this year, and so this, his most recent album from 2015, has re-entered household rotation in eager anticipation. His talent, musical ambition and musical breadth reminds me of a young Prince. Personal highlights: The Bird (man, that groove), Heart Don't Stand a Chance, Put Me Thru, Am I Wrong, Parking Lot, Come Down...just the whole thing, really. If you haven't given him a go yet, get on it already.
