I believe we have become so numb to the obsession with “thin” that we have overlooked the tremendous price we can pay when we attach our worth and value to a number or an idea of perfection. ⁣

Because, truthfully; when was the last time you felt overjoyed while also dieting? ⁣

When was the last time the thought of depriving yourself of certain foods made you feel truly at peace and content? ⁣
⁣
Are you really happy and living your most authentic life when you are seeking to derive meaning from a story of lack?⁣

This right here! It took me forever to realize that every time I said “I feel fat” what I was really experiencing was a deep dense of unease or sadness or insecurity or s billion other actual emotions. I just didn’t know how to be present with them. Didn’t know how to watch them evolve, ebb or transmite and so, I tried to control it all by making it about my perceived unworthiness according t an ideal body image. I’m very glad I have been able to recognize the truth in this, and hope to be a small beacon for others who may feel the same. ~ ~ ~⁣

The #weekend is rolling around and I’m sooooo ready! 😇✨💕🙏 - it may just be #picnic time (now that it’s not a billion degrees in #Htown haha) - whats everyone up to this weekend?

So, I’m gonna rant for a brief moment here today bc this kind of thing breaks my heart. Today, I Overheard someone ask the annoyingly proverbial "If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be and why?" question to the friend they were having coffee with. And I feel as though this ridiculous mentality that we are all in need of "improvement"on a physical level is incredibly detrimental. 
What is wrong with being exactly the way we were created? Why is it so incredibly imperative to change our appearance? Why must we subject ourselves to constant attacks on how we look and how much work we need to do to perfect our looks? Why is it that people find it important to know what it is about our bodies that we would change given the chance? Are we so blind and egocentric that we can not see the beauty in all of us? Is it truly so paramount that we all look like super stars and super models? Do we really want to spend our time comparing body shapes and trading body parts when what we really need is to connect on a deeper level and love one another? There are many things that we can and need to change in this world; and a single one of those things has anything to do with how much we can “change” our bodies in order to look a certain way. We need to stop hatred and jealousy and bigotry and cruelty and a billion other detrimental things and yet we spend our days and nights wishing we looked more like Jessica Biel?! NO MORE! Please! Take a moment each day to truly love every single part of your body. You don't need to improve or yearn for someone else's body or body parts. You don’t need to fit a mold. You are perfectly imperfect and worthy in every single way exactly as you are now. So, can we call a moratorium on this kind of toxic “chatter”? Can we let people know they are loved and invaluable as is?

Not a single one of us is created the same and so, it is crazy to expect all of us to react in the same manner to food, exercise, life, etc. What's more, our bodies are (as all things in the universe are) in a constant state of renewal, flux and regeneration; which means that what worked for me 10 years, a year or even a day ago may not necessarily work for me today. This is why it is so crucial for us to always be connected to our bodies, minds and spirits and not to put too much stock on trends, rigid guidelines or parameters that tell us if we only do x, y or z, we will look exactly like so and so. That’s just not how it works.

One of the things that breaks my heart the most is our ability as women to put each other and our selves down. And further still; our need to practically compete with one another for the sole purpose of being the one who has the most amount of stuff “wrong” with them. You know, it’s the “oh, I’m so fat, just look at these fat rolls” and “you think those are fat rolls, look at these flabby arm” kind of conversations that I find most distressing and which we need to change most desperately with in our society so that we may all heal. We, as humans, are well-versed and practiced in the art of story-telling. But not the kind where we draw up creative worlds and characters to fill up the pages of books or the screens in our homes. No, we are adept at telling stories about self to which we have attached meaning based on false egoic evidence and then, we use these stories to cheat ourselves out of living a fulfilling life by believing them and creating whole systems of belief around them. Take our stories around #dietculture for example. At some point somewhere down the line, someone may have made a comment about our looks or what we were eating, and we may have chosen to assign meaning to this comment, such as “that person is right, I’m fat and the only way to be truly worthy is to be thin”. From then on, anytime a similar occurrence or comment is made, or if we pay attention to all the media, magazines, tv shows, etc around us - we keep making this particular story more and more important to us, until one day, with out our even noticing, our whole life revolves around this story. It becomes the thing we obsess over at night and the idol we pray to every minute of every day. - Can you relate to this truth? We have a tendency to believe things are meant to be all or nothing regarding pretty much every aspect of our lives. We also want to run away from our shadow so far and so fast that we never have to see it again. But the truth is, everything in the Universe is made up of beautiful dualities. With out light, there is no dark, but with out dark there is no light either. So, yes, we are all light workers, and we are all worthy of self-love and self-acceptance. Which also means that as we shine our light into aspects of shade with in, we will still have plenty of days in which that shadow self strengthens, stirs or reawakens in one form or another. But we have the ability to become aware of the shift, remember the lessons learned along the way and choose to shine even brighter and/or remain rooted in the knowledge that we are worthy, loved, safe and capable to break free. We also have a right to feel every emotion with in every moment exactly as it comes along, with out needing to be judged or suppressed.
