After 18 days without sugar or dairy, I've noticed some great physical changes. The cheese craving, however, is so real. I just want to cave! I can make it to 21 days though, and I will! So, to feel indulgent, I tried the #triplebreakfaststacks from MickeyD's (the muffin version so I'd get a real egg, but then I had to ask for no muffin and no cheese!) The good news is the employees seemed surprised they even carry them, and somehow gave me an extra sausage patty! There was some sad bacon that I ate on the side, too. I'm not sure it was worth $4.50, but I might give it another go when I can have cheese again. .:.
I input the individual ingredients into MFP as I ate it (note it would be less with only 2 sausage patties):
🍞4g carbs (2%)
🥑55g fat (77%)
🥓34g protein (21%)
Anyone else try this crazy thing?
Every weekday morning when I leave the gym to go to work I pass this McDonalds in the gym parking lot. Double lane drive thru, full every day. I’m amused that the two share a parking lot. It’s sort of like another nearby strip center that has The Casket Store and literally a Box Store next door to each other. 🤔 What funny retail neighbors do you see in your hood? #notrealfood @24hourfitness #irony#neighbors#dallas#tx
I’m kinda mad that there are so many American fast food places in Europe. 🍟⠀
One of the best things about the lifestyle here is to slow down and have a meal with your family, connecting over the day’s events. ⠀
How does that happen at a place known for speed and consistency, which inevitably means lower quality?
I’m also kinda mad that their McDonald’s are so much nicer than the ones in the US and have more “food”. ⠀
Let's talk about trick or treat. The lovely time of year when all us health food weirdos cringe, bite our tongues and try to decide what is best for our family.
I remember going as a kid and eating way too much candy before my mom confiscated it. She would ration it out so we did not totally make ourselves super sick (smart woman) and eventually it would disappear.
Last year we skipped trick or treat and went out to dinner (so happy) but this year the kids wanted to go so off they went! 😳 My goal is to teach them to make good decisions for themselves in the future. I don't want them to view eating healthy as missing out. On the other hand I don't want to let them gorge themselves on sugar. I try not to overthink it (really I do) let them have some candy and move on to our normal healthyish way of life. They get 2 pieces after school and pick out 2 to go in their lunch the following day. After a week or so that dwindles off. In the end we all have to decide what is best for our own families and just go with it!
In the meantime I will deal with my tiny little sugar crazed kids as best as I can!
I’ve deliberately left this loaf of Wonder “bread” on my table for a few weeks. I’ve heard from various sources that this “bread” doesn’t go mouldy, doesn’t dry out; and, I wanted to see for myself if that were true. IT IS! Best before date: October 9. Today’s date: October 23. Look at the photos. Wonder “bread” all right — wonder what’s in it, wonder what it really is. It is definitely NOT bread. #notrealfood#wonderwhatsinitbread#scaryfood#imnoteatingit
I won't lie - I wish I could pack a lunch box like this for my daughter!
This is the lunchbox Mila wishes she got, and it is the lunchbox I wish I could give her! In fact – it is the lunchbox we are BOTH dreaming of. If you ask Mila what her favourite foods are she will tell you “Pizza, white bread and cheese”. Those are the foods that she will sit down and eat to the very last crumb without complaint and without encouragement. And those are the foods that would be so easy for me! Just go to the shop, buy them, put them in the lunch box. Done. Quick. Easy. Child fed. Awesome! 😵
So why don't I? .
Well, Mila is gluten- and dairy-intolerant. She is also exceptionally sugar-sensitive and I want the ADD genes in her gene pool to remain dormant. .
And then of course - there's my conscience. You see - now that I know what is in these convenience foods, my conscience simply won't allow me to give them to her. I'm referring to the preservatives, artificial flavourings and colourants. GMO ingredients (soy and canola) and their pesticide residue.
I also do know that while packing this lunch box is quick and easy - dealing with the emotional roller-coaster these foods trigger is not. Neither is the snotty nose or the "stuck poopies".
If you are in Cape Town - please come to the @Healthy_Kids_are_cool event tomorrow - where I will be presenting my Delicious & Nutritious Lunch Box talk - jam packed full of more practical info and inspiration! Event page link in bio.
There will be goody bags, giveaways, stalls from @floraforcebaby, @MojoMe, @faithful_to_nature, @faithjuice, @mycrunchbox, @neighbourhoodfarm, @knosh and more!
*Let's talk additives*
There are thousands of additives in processed foods. But let's focus on phosphate additives; when the war on sodium began and companies needed a new preservative so they could claim their product was low in sodium, they began to come up with different additives such as phosphate additives for preserving. There is a phosphate Council claiming we need more in our diet but research has shown we get plenty from the natural foods we eat. Once again it comes down to money, the council is there to push their preservatives not look out for our health!
So what does too much phosphate do? Well it depends on if your kidneys are functioning at the proper compacity. An example of what it can do when your kidney doesn't flush it out... is the phosphate stays in the blood and it pulls calcium from your bones into your bloodstream. Calcium and phosphate are like best friends they want to be with each other all the time. So when there is excess phosphate in the blood it pulls the calcium in with it. Which can compromise our bones and our blood vessels begin to calcify. Keep in mind all the additives and their effects, even lowering the amount of processed foods consumed can be beneficial to your health!!!
Australian icons rock, well most of them... did you know that the iconic Australian biscuit, the Tim Tam contains not 1, but 5 toxic artificial colours, that have been banned in countries other than Australia due to their adverse health effects. Go figure ! Sorry to be the fun police on this sugar laden Aussie Treat 🤨 deciphering food labels can be a tricky business 🙄 #diabetes#carbage#brainhealth#guthealth#eatwholefoods#chronicillness on the rise !!! #foodtoxins#notrealfood
What would you do?? I bought this caramel popcorn 🍿 in a fundraiser and managed to keep out of it (post #keto only). Was going to give to Dad, family etc, but the ingredients SUCK! 🤬I’m tempted to trash it and consider my $20 as a cash donation to the boy scouts. #sugarfreelife#notketo#notpaleo#jerf#notrealfood
So tonight I had a serious stern talk with my two boys (12 Levi & 10 Ezra). Levi gets irritated because his younger bro wants to be with him and do what he does. Ezra is overly dramatic but Levi tends to go into his own world because he’s at that age, I guess. You hear of so many families not close and siblings not talking. I told them I absolutely refuse for my family to be like that, I refuse to have any tension between brothers who are best friends. Kids lives are soooo different now. When I was a kid and In high school pagers weren’t even around (yeah go figure my age🤷🏼♀️). There was no outside world (social media) and yes I agree social media is useful and beneficial especially for business and staying in touch. But too much of it and video games are breaking families apart, once again I refuse that in my family. Sooo tonight I had a spur of the moment idea which goes TOTALLY against my “healthy” beliefs! I told everyone get in the car, we’re going to Longs (closest) and you have 5 min to grab whatever you want for $4 or less. You go over you get nothing. So of course they grab junk I don’t let them have! Swipe left to see!! CONTEST- guess what each person got. Here’s the names to match them- jodi, Ronnie, Levi, Ezra and Nahe (hint-2kids chose two things each) winner gets a free CBD oil roller and salve! Comment below to enter! After all they had fun and learned to work together. #lovewins#familyisforever#nohate#benice#bestfriends#Godfirst#fitfam#notsohealthychoices#fun forgive #notrealfood

Did you ever wonder how the meat sold in the grocery store always looks so fresh
Have you thought about how long it takes to get from a live animal to the slaughterhouse to the packer to the distributor to the grocery store to the meat case and finally to your dinner plate
⬇️ Two-thirds of the meat (beef and chicken) packaged for consumer use in the U.S. are prepared and packaged at a meat packing plant that then ships it case-ready for grocery stores. In the process, many packers inject carbon monoxide into the package that surrounds the meat to keep it looking–but not necessarily remaining–fresh
The carbon monoxide becomes infused in the meat and attaches itself to myoglobin (a kind of intercellular protein) in the meat and oxygen is thereby retained, keeping the meat looking fresh. No one will buy brown meat. The carbon monoxide creates a low-oxygen environment that inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause spoilage
Carbon monoxide (CO, one carbon atom plus one oxygen atom) is a colorless, odorless, flavorless gas that is lethal to humans in large amounts
When it is used in meat packaging, CO sticks to hemoglobin (the oxygen carrier in the blood) in the meat and stays there, ready for you to eat it
Consider this: Clostridium perfringens bacteria are one of the most common causes of food-borne illness. They thrive where there is little oxygen. Enter the meat (and imported fish) that has been treated with CO in the atmospheric packaging process. It’s estimated that about half of the meat sold in grocery stores contain this bacteria
This "meal" is *FIVE*YEARS*OLD* and is just sitting in a cabinet. 👀👀👀 Notice the lack of decay, mold, etc...because it is #notrealfood 🤢🤢🤢 Why would you #choose to put this in your body? I once heard a saying... "The longer the shelf life of a food, the shorter your life will be." This seems to have a *very*long* shelf life. If #mothernature doesn't want this, why should we??? 🤔🤔🤔 #nutrition#health#repost @coachpetertwist
