To love a swamp, however, is to love what is muted and marginal, what exists in the shadows, what shoulders its way out of mud and scurries along the damp edges of what is most commonly praised. And sometimes its invisibility is a blessing. Swamps and bogs are places of transition and wild growth, breeding grounds, experimental labs where organisms and ideas have the luxury of being out of the spotlight, where the imagination can mutate and mate, send tendrils into and out of the water. #barbarahurd#saveourwater#duckweed#horsercreek
You’re not looking into The Eye of Sauron. This is not photoshopped. This #MontaneMansion photograph was taken on @canonusa’s 8-15mm fisheye lens. The shot is captured at its widest focal length which causes this crazy amount of distortion. When shot straight up like this, you capture a 360 degree perspective nearly to the horizon line. I checked out this spot last night and am SO happy I did... be sure to head to my feed to see 2 other shots from this same location (dropping soon)!!! In the words of my awesome photographer friend, @croshanemedia, “Whaaaaaaaaa sickkkkkkkk” 🤣🤘🏻

You would be correct in thinking that this is just me and Daphne standing in a generic river, except that this is the start of the mighty Missouri River. This is the spot where 3 tributaries all join together and the Missouri is created! I have been reading the journals of Lewis and Clark while on our road trip. This was a big stepping stone on their journey to the Pacific. It took them multiple days to figure out which of the 3 rivers to continue up in hopes of getting over the forbidding mountains. It was very exciting for me to get to see a spot that was talked about so much in my book. Sure the rivers and moved and changed a lot in the past 200 years but I still felt the connection with Lewis and Clark.
When you are sitting at the Jefferson and Madison rivers meeting it is just impossible to choose which one would be best for getting up to the mountains. Yet they were able to make the right choice. It gave me a whole new respect for their incredible navigation skills.
Next time you are outside just try to imagine being having no idea what lay ahead in your journey. You have to choose between 3 rivers and if you mess up you could end your trip or worse end your life. The dangers of getting stuck where there was no food and starving to death were very real. So much weighed on the decisions of these 2 men on which river to continue up. Gives me good bumps just thinking about it! 🤙 --------------------------------------------------------------------#wander#wanderlust#instagood#adventure#travel#explore#hike#hiking#gooutside#nomadjunkies#welivetoexplore#exploreeverything#adventuretravel#adventuretime#trek#trekking#backpacking#vanlife#travelgram#hiking_daily#roadtrip#letsgosomewhere#exploring#exploremore#outdoors#notallwhowanderarelost#vanlifeexplorers#naturelovers
