A little snippet from Ernesto's ocarina workshop lastnight. We had a lot of fun! He is such a wonderful storyteller, artist, and teacher. We are really grateful to have him here as a Artist-in-Residence at PLACE.
Motherhood certainly changes us. How we lived before might not fit quite the same since we took on our new role. For many of us we feel a pull to participate in motherhood or children’s lives in a greater way.
FIT4MOM Berkeley Emeryville is hiring, and if you’re passionate about fitness, motherhood, and the power of a supportive village, DM/email for details about a gig with us. We’re hiring instructors for Stroller Strides as well as new formats!
Passionate about the above but not interested in teaching? We are also looking for mamas to coordinate Our Village events, including Playgroups, Moms Night Out, and other fun!
Mama & Baby Tiggers and Pumpkins, a Rainbow and her Pot of Gold, a Mouse and her Cheese, a bunny.
Frankenstein lunges, creepy crawls, pumpkin weights and monster mash. If there were an MVP of silly our mama, Brooke, would rein. #draculavoice
We worked out, we played, we decorated pumpkins. Our super scary Pumpkin Spice Stroller Strides and Playgroup was SO MUCH FUN!
They’re watching 👀 and imitating 🐒! And it’s not always positive 🤷♀️. So your toddler yells at the dog because she sees you yell at the dog. Maybe she begs for sweets as she sees you indulge. We are not good mothers because we are perfect, and our children won’t be perfect either, no matter how patient or sugar free we become 🤦♀️. But when we do things that are good for our body and soul, they’re watching that too. When we take care of ourself, they are learning to take care of themselves (and that exercise is fun!). Self care is not selfish, mama! And this particular variety of self care includes stories, songs, and toe tickles for your babe too 👌
Today is national Boss Day! Let us honor you, boss mom.
Every SINGLE day you make it happen — kisses and hugs are bottomless, mouths are fed, travel logistics are lined up, bodies are covered in clean clothes, the sleep rituals are carried out, shopping is done, resumes are submitted, crusts are cut off, missing game pieces are located, you calm your baby while you finish your workout (as our fierce mama Elba demonstrates here!).
Seriously mama, how do you do it?! You are the CEO of this family and there isn’t a more perfect person for the role. Give yourself a pat on the back, say something sincerely nice to yourself, and as your day comes to a close, put your feet up on a pillow like the boss queen you are. #momsmaketheworldgoround
Learn how to make your own hand-crafted, skull-shaped traditional clay "ocarina" in celebration of the upcoming Día de los Muertos.
This Thursday (10/18) @ 6:30pm. (Register on fb event page. Link in bio)
An ocarina is an ancient musical instrument that is still played in ceremonies and celebrations in different native communities around the word. Through guided instruction and storytelling, students will create their own clay pieces to take home and discover how one's interconnectedness with the instruments can be expressed through your own music.
This workshop will be led by Ernesto Hernandez Olmos, a Oaxacan artist who specializes in traditional ceramic arts. Ernesto will begin with a historical introduction to Meso-American instrument-making. Myths and legends within ancient mesoamerican culture, music, and cosmology will be shared to give awareness on the deep connections that these instruments had on our indigenous ancestors. Various instruments and replicas will be displayed and demonstrated. All materials will be provided. Class fee covers clay, tools and firing. This workshop will be held inside and outside. Please be prepared and wear comfortable clothing and bring an apron and your water canteen.

Maybe you’re like I was (Monica here, 👋) and hesitate to join a “mom thing” because of that quiet under current of negative associations you have about groups of women. I avoided making new mom friends because I was tired, and busy, and passively avoiding judgement. Well, holy shit was I mis-judging this whole scene. The moment I tried a class my mind was unequivocally changed. These women who show up to Stroller Strides each week are the most incredible reminder that bringing women together is powerful, healing, restorative, and needed now during these tumultuous times more than ever. They are as close to science fiction super heros as one can come, and always ready to take on even more if it means supporting another mom.
Listen to the voice that’s telling you to give it a try, and as for the negative voice that’s keeping you from your village - quiet it just long enough to meet us and see for yourself.
Here’s to #selflove and #sisterhoodinmotherhood
Had such a wonderful and successful first night of our pop-up fundraiser! Didn’t have a lot of time to capture our collection and happy customers but so excited so many people went home with pieces that made them happy! Thank you to all of you who came out to shop and support! We’ll be back tomorrow from 11AM-2PM. We still have bundles and racks of treasures for you!
This is success. It’s finding those moments for ourself, that are fleeting in motherhood, hard to attain, and often the first to go when the day gets hectic.
Our Village’s Mom’s Morning Out, Yoga + Coffee + Clothing Swap, is quickly becoming a favorite around here. We’ll be sure to bring it back next month, cause who doesn’t love Savasana (seen here, the final pose 💆♀️) followed by a hot cup of coffee (that we finish while it’s still hot!!), and some casual free shopping?
Love these mamas, so much gratitude 🙏 ☀️ 😴 #themotherhoodisreal
