Swap plastic bottles and plastic lined cartons for glass bottles or homemade milk 🌱💡
🌿 This is an easy switch if you’re not into dairy milk. Plant based milks tend to be much cheaper if you make them at home, and in my opinion much tastier. These are the different types I’ve tried so far; Almond, Cashew, Pistachio, Hemp Seed, Oat and Soy. I was able to find all of the ingredients package free in bulk stores. Each recipe follows the same principle (soak, blend, strain) but vary slightly depending on the proprieties of the base ingredient. Eg hemp seeds don’t need soaking and can be blended into milk without any straining, where as almonds need to be soaked for a few hours and the pulp will need to be strained through a nut milk or cheese cloth. I buy cheese cloth/muslin from a fabric store, it’s much cheaper and just as effective as a nut milk bag.
🍶 If you’re all about the dairy, I’ve seen a few companies offering glass bottles in Melbourne like @schulzorganicdairy, @stdaviddairy and @butterflyfactory_gippsland. Have a search in your city and if you can’t find any... let the local dairy companies know that you’d like glass bottles. If lots of people are asking, they may consider a switch!
Day 22 #PlasticFreeJuly 🌏🌏🌏
Pack a Travel Soap Bar
Our Friendly Travel Soap Bar would love to meet you - swipe left. 🌏🌏🌏
8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the sea each year. We need to be the change NOW.
Keep going with small changes, they will make a BIG difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💫Congratulations to @FriendlySoapltd for winning Gold in the Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards 💫
Not only collecting plastic, but also informing and raising awareness about plastic pollution are among our main priorities. During the weekend we installed a little cinema at the local soccer court in Virgen Morena, Nicaragua, to present the beautiful and clever movie made by @wavesnotplastic with some other clips about what happens each time you throw plastic into nature. Did you for instance know that plastic items can take up to 1000 years to decompose in landfills while plastic bottles can take 450 years or more? And that plastic bags we use in our everyday life take 10-1000 years to dissolve? ...and they look exactly like jellyfish under water which makes it hard for bigger creatures to distinguish (swipe right!) So please do our future a small favor and recycle 🐬♻️🐬 #beatplasticpollution
All about the pink smoothie vibes this Sunday and I just picked up some #bamboostraws which are awesome. Do you think about making choices that involve #noplastic , such as investing in #reuseable products like shopping bags, straws and food contains? These are smalls eco-friendly steps that everyone can do. It's easy and believe it or not, does impact on our world because one person can start a ripple that can turn into a wave for future generations! it's healthier for you, and healthier for the planet.
Have a great Sunday friends ✌💖
Amigos lindos!
We believe it is so important to teach our children the importance of keeping our oceans clean. The booklet is coming together and we couldn’t be more excited. Love sharing the process with you, stay tuned ❤️❤️
Karma Kids are a huge point of focus for us because it’s their future we’re fighting for!! 🌎They aren’t set in their old non sustainable ways, and they know swag hats when they see them!!! Here we have @bennett._18 down in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 getn’ tight on a fun summer juvenile tarpon!
Summer’s got us thinking about swimming And wouldn’t it be nice to swim in an ocean without plastic? 🌊
Well with the help of brands like @staywildswim by @zannavandijk there is hope for us all! Stay Wild Swim is the UK’s first premium swimwear line made from regenerated ocean plastic, quite literally turning threat into thread. 🐳🙏
They are also partnering up with @Guppy Friend to fight microplastics by using eco-friendly washbags.
With statistics like these, it's hard not to take action and start choosing more sustainable consumer products (whilst looking great at the same time of course): ‘Up to 12 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year, that is a truck load a minute. On average 46,000 pieces of plastic are present in every square mile of ocean’. ☠🥤 Let us know below brands that you know of that are meeting the needs of more conscious eco-consumers. 🌎🌿
Fate has it that you always find new great things right before leaving 😆
But the universe sends signs, and I am reading this one as I need to search for good farmers markets once in California. I have a feeling it will be easy 👩🌾 •
Fort Greene Greenmarket- scored fresh raspberries, blueberries, and gooseberries. Also some fresh vegan/gf breakkie empanadas 🙌
Tadi aku buat #OatMilk (Susu Gandum), salah satu alternatif untuk #CowMilk (Susu Sapi)!! 1. Rendam #Oats 15 menitan - 2. Blender (campur ekstrak vanila, kayu manis, garam mungkin) - 3. Saring ampasnya pakai saringan biasa atau #nutbag 4. Minum deh!
1. #Nutbag gak harus beli, kalo misalnya kamu beli Tahu di pasar, biasanya dia kasih semacam pelapis kain gitu, itu bisa dipakai! #Reusable
2. Ampasnya bisa kamu makan (foto ke-2) --- Sonia
🌿Keepin’ it plastic free-(ish)🌿 - okay, I’m going to bore you all for a couple of seconds. But YO. This is so important! @tomhaswell Got me some pretty awesome pressies for my b’day, so I’m going to tell you a little more about why they’re just so great!
Do you know how much single use plastic is thrown away every year? 12million tonnes. 😔
16 million plastic bottles a day currently DO NOT get recycled in the UK. It’s astonishing and pretty horrific just how huge the worlds single use plastic consumption is.
With our planet becoming more and more polluted and the wildlife that we share it with feeding their young plastic without knowing what it is, it’s time we all get clued up on how we can help reduce our single use plastic consumption . .
An amazing insight into the damage that single use plastic has been causing and will continue to cause if nothing is to be done. It’s not a pledge to say cut everything plastic out because let’s face it, that’s almost impossible today. But if you could even just grab a new water bottle/keep cup and grab some funky tote bags. You’ll be helping in your way. .
And Psssss loads of places give you money off your coffee OR if you get yours from @finkssaltandsweet like Tom did, you get 4 free coffees which pretty much pays for your cup. And we’re lucky enough in the UK to have drinkable tap water which is free. Pretty ace! Give @_willmccallum book ‘How to Give Up Plastic’ a read. Your eyes will be opened to just how bad the problem is and give you that gentle kick to do your bit. #saveourplanet

PLASTIC FREE JULY DAY 21 | PLASTIC FREE DIY:
I think, as with all of the other days, I am reasonably happy with my #plasticfreejuly although there are several things that I would like to change. For example, breakfast. We like to have pastries for breakfast at the weekends, as they are a real treat taste AMAZING! However, they come in plastic bags, which although they can be recycled are creating a whole load of #plasticwaste . There is a local garden centre which sells #plasticfree pastries, but the rest of my family don’t like them very much (the pastries) because they don’t puff up as much as the ones we normally have do.
On a drive to save as much money as possible, I have decided to try and make my own #plasticfree products, from things which I can (mostly) find around the house or from mine and my sister’s wardrobe clear outs. So, from a collection of old t-shirts and vest tops (which would have otherwise gone to charity) I have decided to make my own t-shirt yarn for crocheting various #plasticfree products. This not only #reduces any potential waste for landfill, but also #recycles old t-shirts and gives them a new lease of life! With the yarn in the photo, i have started to make a chunky crochet #stringbag for shopping. I am going to see how successful (or otherwise) it is, and I might consider selling them (if I make more). DM me or comment below if you would, potentially, be interested.
I also bought my first jar of #coconutoil yesterday from @hollandandbarrett. Most DIY beauty products include #coconutoil as an ingredient - as well as it being reported that it is an amazing #makeupremover , so I thought I’d buy a jar. This was the cheapest #plasticfree jar that I could find. It was £6.99 for 250ml. I’m not sure yet, whether that was good value or not, but I think it will be a good investment and I look forward to experimenting with it!
Finally, I went to a bbq last night, where I had to bring my own meat and drinks. This meant that I could (slightly) reduce the amount of #plasticwaste there was there, as well as meaning that I could chose the stuff (to eat and drink) that I like, before I got there. I did manage to have a pretty #Plasticfree bbq...
It’s all about you! 🙏 Each week we’ll be sharing the love and picking one of you to feature on our page. Because you’re awesome! 🎉🎉 This week it's all about @cristina_the_activist doing her bit for the environment and the animals. 🌿
There are many different forms of activism, and we can all be advocates for the environment in our own ways. 🙌🙌 Let us know in the comments, what you’re doing this week to make a difference. We’re still doing our best to have a plastic free July 🌍
