We'll be putting up valuable articles on Facebook on the ketogenic diet and pets!
Here's some great information on Ketopet Sanctuary:
KetoPet Sanctuary was founded in 2014 as a program under the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Epigenix Foundation. The sanctuary was started by a group of people with an insatiable passion for helping animals and gave a “forever home” to shelter dogs with cancer, saving them from being euthanized. Once at KPS, each dog was placed on a ketogenic diet (high fat, adequate protein, and low carbohydrates) as a form of cancer treatment. Most nutritional protocols rely on faith, lacking objective metrics from which the diet can be analyzed. However, unlike other diets, the ketogenic diet can be assessed by examining blood glucose and ketone levels. By definition, a ketogenic diet is any diet that produces ketones, so blood tests were used to determine the efficacy of the diet.
In addition to nutritional therapy, KetoPet offered dogs the highest standard of veterinary and oncology care (surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation), fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) imaging (typically used only with humans), exercise regiments, hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments (HBOT), and of course, lots of love.
While not a cure, KetoPet has found the ketogenic diet to be effective in improving outcomes when treating canines with cancer. In fact, 55% of the dogs who graduated from the KPS program are still going for long walks, enjoying belly rubs, playing catch, and experiencing a quality of life far beyond their original prognosis. Some of these sanctuary dogs are even living cancer-free.

After losing 60 pounds naturally, I feel like I have a new life. Losing weight and deciding to have weightloss surgery have been the greatest expressions of self love I have ever expressed. Being able to breath, move, and feel comfortable in my body is honestly a gift that I have worked so hard for. Sometimes it may feel like a struggle but it has been worth it in the long run. 19 days till #surgery#transformationtuesday
Time to take this “leaning out” more seriously. This is one of my go to meals minus all the carbs. I’m not trying to stay away from carbs all the time but I’m going to use them much more strategically. To be honest I’ve been overeating the past two weeks because of stress and lack of self control but time to right the ship. We all fail, we all fall short, but we have the power to get back up and charge forward. Never too late to make a change. Have a great night my friends🙏🏼
Deep squats build stronger legs ... #BKcrew ... The squat is renowned as the best compound movement in the world of fitness. During the squat, the hip, knee and even the ankle joints (plantar flexion occurs at the joint when you press into the ground during the concentric phase of the squat) are all involved in the movement. As a result, your soleus (the calf), hamstrings, quadriceps, glutes, abdominals (core stability), hip adductors and erector spinae are all engaged during the back squat. Even the traps have to work to stabilize the bar as it’s racked across your back. Now, when more muscles are being worked, the body secretes more HGH (human growth hormone) and testosterone, two hormones that are vital for building muscle. In addition, the more tension that is placed on a muscle (and the more time that the muscle is placed under tension), the more muscle fiber is recruited, which increases muscular hypertrophy and strength. The problem with partial ROM squats is that while they do stretch the muscles in the legs somewhat, they could be stretched so much further. So while you may be able to lift more weight when just breaking parallel, your muscles will be getting more of a workout by going to full depth; their time under tension will be significantly increased, and more muscle fibers will be recruited to handle the load.
First chilly day means soup. The base was a dry soup mix on sale from Kroger. I used chicken stock, cream of chicken and diced chicken to make it work for my family. Not totally keto but better than take out.
Day 16 of the 31 day carnivore challenge 📓
Bacon + beef liver (melted butter on top) + rotisserie chicken (melted butter on top)
Halfway through the challenge and I’m enjoying it 💃🏻 Don’t get me wrong - I miss cauliflower mash, cream cheese pancakes, allll the fabulous pumpkin treats, creamy protein shakes... the list goes on BUT my digestive issues and overall gut health is thanking me 10000%. It’s been such a struggle living with Celiac disease, lactose intolerance and IBS. 😩 When I started keto it relieved a lot of these issues but I did notice I would bloat here and there when I ate certain foods - mostly veggies. Carnivore has put the least amount of stress on my digestive system. I highly recommend to anyone who has food sensitivities/allergies.
One of my new favourite sweet combo's: half a keto brownie, a couple of tablespoons of halo top ice cream (cookies and cream flavour) as its not a creamy ice cream I add a bit of double cream too! I Will post my brownie recipe soon but it's loosely based on Sugar Free Londoners Recipe, without the blending and adding some nuts for texture!
My dinners have been eaten to quick before I could get a camera out recently so haven't had many posts 😂 but here's my breakfast/brunch from Sunday. This is 90 second microwave keto bread made with coconut flour only then toasted in butter. A mini bacon sandwich and said. With mayo and mustard 😊 #keto#nocarb#lowcarb#ketofriendly#90secondbread

KETO: Shrimp Etouffee (recipe below) - Creole/Cajun food from New Orleans has a special spot in my culinary heart. The mix of French, Spanish, Caribbean, and Southern American in the culture (specifically the food) is truly something you cannot find anywhere else. Etouffee is just one of my favorites I seek out whenever I go down to N’awlins. I kept it Keto by using coconut flower in the Roux and using @miraclenoodle rice. #thebigeasy#nola#neworleans#nawlins#creole#cajun#keto#gaychef#imcomingforyourjob#antoniporowski Ingredients: (serves 4)
1 lbs of 31/35 shrimp (large)
1 large red bell pepper (diced)
1 medium white onion (diced)
1 cup of chopped celery
1 cup of butter
3/4 cup of coconut flour
1 Roma tomato (diced)
4 garlic cloves (minced)
1 tablespoon of fresh thyme
2 tablespoon of paprika
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
1 cup of dry red wine
1 cup of shrimp stock (clam or chicken work as well)
2 7oz packages of Miracle Rice
1/2 cup of chopped green onion *In a deep saucepan, melt the butter on a medium heat together with the coconut flour. Stir to prevent the butter from browning.
*once you’ve formed a think roux, add celery, white onion, and peppers. Stir together and cook for 5 minutes.
*deglaze the bottom of the pan by adding the red wine, stir together making sure you lift the flavors from the bottom of the pan. Cook for 3 minutes.
*add in garlic, tomatoes, tomato paste, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir, Bring to a boil for 3 minutes.
*add stock, bring to a boil, then cover with a tight lid. Reduce heat to a simmer. Leave it alone for 30 minutes.
*uncover lid, turn up heat to medium, add peeled shrimp. Let the shrimp cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
*serve on top of prepared miracle rice, garnish with green onions, add salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
