“Deep listening is the kind of listening that can help relieve another person of suffering. It may sometimes be called compassionate listening. You listen with only one purpose...to help him or her to empty their heart. And if you remember that you are helping him or her to suffer less, even if they say things full of wrong perception, or full of bitterness, you are still capable to continue to listen with compassion. Because you know that by listening with compassion you give him or her a chance to suffer less. If you want to help them to correct their perception, wait for another time. Listen with compassion and help them to suffer less. One hour like this can bring transformation and healing.” Thich Nhat Hanh
These feet, these legs, my body. Every day I get up, walk-drive-scoot-bike to show up. Again, and again, and again, I show up. I show up day after day to breathe, to love, to share, to smile, to teach, to witness, to experience.
Austerity, self-discipline, dedication...it all roots from love. I show up because I care.
Why do you show up?

#yogaadana
Letting go is freedom. The fruition of sadhana. Good comes and goes; so does bad. It is natural. With life comes death and they cannot be separated. Holding onto anything past its time doesn’t bring health, longevity, or happiness. Instead of passing through moments in life let’s try allowing life to pass through us. Coming and going as it pleases. This is the ride. No in’s and out’s.

Nest is Niyama’s Pan-Asian restaurant, but what is unique about it is that it is set in the Treetops. You are dining in a treehouse!
Hoi An Caramel Pork Belly with Sticky Rice. Tender and moist, nice!
Waygu and Truffle Rice. Not too heavy on flavors, but still pretty good.
Teriyaki fish for the Master and also some noodles in soup.
Assorted crackers to start us off.
Unique way to dine!#jaymoyeatsmaldives#sgfood#sgfoodie#sgeats#sgfoodblogger#maldiveseats#niyama
contentment does not equal complacency. — me. day 10 @getlovedup #gluthailand training. .
these words came to me last night as we were going over the yamas and the niyamas. santosa from ‘sam’ (completely) ‘tosha’ (contentment/ satisfaction/ or acceptance), is the second of the niyamas or self-disciplines. as yogis, we are to seek contentment in all we do. even if things are less that ideal. even if things aren’t as good as we want them to be. even if we feel we aren’t as “good” as we want ourselves to be. .
. when we seek contentment we are making peace with things as they are in each moment. we are trusting in source to show us what we need to do, and/or what we need to learn at that moment. .
different teachers across various cultures have invoked the same energetic concept, though the language has shifted over time and space. “be still and know...” “go with the flow.” “do the best that you can.” .
be in peace. even in turmoil, do what you can to be content. if situations or people cause strong negative emotions to arise, meditate on how you can shift your own inner space back to that place of calm empowerment and action. contentment eventually becomes your natural, balanced state. *note: i’m still working on alla dis ^^^. in the meantime here’s a pic of my roommate and i in the pool being content 😅. #yoga#santosa#santosha#nofilter

Illustrated Windmill-Words from BREAKS (The Book of Lies) by John R. King. “Asana gets rid of Anatomy-consciousness. Pranayama gets rid of Physiology consciousness. Yama and Niyama get rid of Ethical consciousness. Pratyhara gets rid of the Objective. Dharana gets rid of the Subjective. Dhyana gets rid of the Ego. Samadhi gets rid of the Soul Impersonal. Asana destroys the static body (Nama). Pranayama destroys the dynamic body (Rupa). Yama destroys the emotions (Vedana). Niyama destroys the passions. Dharana destroys the perceptions (Sanna). Dhyana destroys the tendencies (Sankhara). Samadhi destroys the consciousness (Vinnanam). The last of these facts is the one of which I am most certain.” Perdurabo. 🙏 #asana#yoga#hathayoga#dhyana#dharana#niyama#pranayama#pratyhara#consciousness#words#crowley#thebookoflies
Through the many yoga poses we do in our practice, inner organs are being squeezed, twisted, massaged and stimulated with increased bloodflow. In certain postures, some bodily fluids (lymph etc.) will run in certain directions, and inner organs get a chance to empty themselves properly. This is also why we do not practice asana with food in our bellies.
There are many reasons for being upside down. One aspect of those reasons, is to give the inner organs a chance to empty properly. The gallbladder is an organ where bile can build up and become stale and form gallstones. Gallstones hurt. Through all the poses we do, we give such organs a good chance of emptying and cleaning themselves out. This is also why some people experience detox symptoms, such as headache or nausea in the beginning of their yoga asana practice. Old stuff, or toxins, is being released and needs to be cleaned out by the inner organs, excreted through the skin, lungs or urine.
This is why it is a good idea to drink more water than regularly after your yoga practice. Putting lime or lemon in the water helps the liver to activate to start cleaning out the old unuseful stuff. This is one aspect of saucha, the second niyama. Inner physical cleanliness.
Certamente dietro ad ogni regalo c’è un significato.
Un messaggio di amore, di piacere, di dolore, di paura... Un massaggio altro non è che un messaggio di pace, finalmente.
Di pace della mente.

Salamba Sarvangasana/ Svadhyaya
The fourth Niyama, Svadhyaya, is the principle of self-study. 📚 “Self observation without judgement is the highest spiritual practice.” -Babuji, Swami Kripalu. This can include reflection, learning, any information that helps you learn more about yourself is Svadhyaya. 🤔 .
From practicing yoga I’ve learned I can be quite mean to myself. Judging myself with negative thoughts and attaching to stories that do not serve me. During YTT, I was introduced to Babuji, Swami Kripalu and his beautiful words, “My beloved child, break your heart no longer. Each time you judge yourself, you break your own heart; you stop feeding on the love which is the wellspring of your vitality. The time has come. Your time to live, to celebrate. And to see the goodness that your are. You, my child, are Divine. You are pure. You are sublimely free. You are God in disguise and you're always perfectly safe. Do not fight the dark, just turn on the light. Let go and breathe into the goodness that you are.” ✨💕✨ I find his words beautiful and so true! We are all light 😊🙏✨I practice Svadhyaya by listening to Swami Kripalu and studying myself without judgement. 🥰 I do this by being ok with how I feel about myself and my life. ✌️I was reminded in a meditation the other day that to truly move forward and let go of judgement you must first be ok with whatever life brings your way. 🕊
"A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but who they are inside."- Unknown
This quote makes me feel warm & fuzzy about my fur baby 🐶❤️& It also, reminded me of " Svadhyaya ( Sanskrit) or Self-Study which is Niyama (Yogic Observance).
In yoga we come into the present moment by yoking movement with conscious breath. We consciously observe, release feelings & fears of the past & future. Noticing thoughts is the key. The internal voice quiets & only is replaced with an inner guru. In this space you are able to observe yourself, neutrally acknowledge & accept what is, thereby coming into balance. Thoughts become words, words become behaviors, behaviors become habits & habits become values. In yoga, we choose to value non-judgment. Passing judgment is harmful because that energy of criticism lives in you. It affects you. When you judge someone it defines you not the other person. When you can notice, but not judge, what you are doing & how you are feeling in every moment, you open a window to empathy for yourself & gain the stability you need to extend it to others. The highest spiritual practice is self-observation without judgment. Study helps you understand the universality of life experiences & thereby increases your compassion for yourself & others. So before you Judge take a breath, be kind & observe ☮️#svadyaya#niyama#self#study#yoga#practice#yogi#yogalove#selfcare#yogaeverydamnday#mindfulness#love#furbaby#puppiesofinstagram#yogisofinstagram#compassion#bekind#bepresent#breath#nojudgement#yogagirl#spiritual#peace#yogacommunity#fortlauderdaleyoga
During this time of year, it is so tempting to look ahead to all the things to come. I notice that I’m constantly anticipating all the holiday excitement and all the business of closing out the fall semester. The practice of Santosha, or contentment, reminds me that slipping beyond NOW prevents me from being able to live in joy and gratitude for the present moment. So I’m slowing down, taking my swift step back, and trying my best to stay fully here, now.
#AyYogaPose Exp 4:
#Lotuspose / #Padmasana : 🌸
The author of "Yoga Sutras" Patanjali says the lotuspose is the ultimate aim of yoga. It is not simply the pose itself but the stages one should go through to reach it. The first stage is external and internal cleanliness, ethical principles (#yama & #niyama ). Second is related to body: posture (#asana ) and breath control (#pranayama ). Posture doesn't mean getting into marvelous shapes but rather a pose stable and longlasting without discomfort like the lotus pose. One should prepare the body to the lotus pose through other poses. Next stages are withdrawal of senses, concentration of the mind, meditation and finally the ultimate aim self awareness. Lotus pose makes the spine straight to maximize the flow of energy. Traditional texts say that lotus pose destroys all disease and awakens kundalini. Within the lotus pose our awareness of the surrounding is maximized. So usually yogis meditate on lotus pose with closed eyes to reach self awareness through concentration of the mind. Lotus pose symbolizes the flower lotus which is a methaphor because "lotus is rooted in the mud, and when it grows, it blooms into a beautiful flower" like one will experience when s/he reaches the true self.
#Lotuspozu lotus cicegine itafen yapilmis bir metafordur. "Yoga Sutralari"'nin yazari Patanjali'ye gore yoganin nihai amaci lotus pozudur. Pozdan ziyade yoga yolunda atilan adimlarla dissal, icsel temizlik, ahlaki prensiplere sahip olmak, yoga pozlariyla vucudu lotus pozuna hazirlamak, nefesi kontrol etmek, lotus pozunda tipki tasavvuftaki gibi farkinladigini artirmak, duyularini kapatmak, zihni odaklamak, derin dusunme ve ice donusle oz varligina ulasmaktir amac.
The Yamas and Niyamas. Us yogis do our best to follow these principles in every day life, which is easier said than done. To uphold these ideas takes a vigilant effort of self-awareness. I personally am making a continuous effort to treat myself and others in these manners. This just goes to show you that yoga and mediation is a life long learning process. We can always be better and do better. #yoga#yama#niyama#meditation#selfstudy 🧘🏼♀️🔮✨
Sometimes you have to look at things from a different perspective to see the change. My progress this year has been more mental and emotional than physical, and that's okay! I look at myself in this picture and think holy shit I've really slimmed down. Some days are better than others, but in hindsight it's all good. Be kind to yourself, you are your own biggest obstacle, but you can also be your biggest cheerleader. The choice is yours. #flylikeabird#flyer#yoga#ytt#namastedoingyogaytt#yogi#yoga#namaste#niyama#santosa#svadhyaya
