It's called the 'United Arab Emirates' because the federation of states in the Arab world came together in union. The Union House in Jumeirah was the backdrop for the signing of the 1971 Union Agreement when six emirates — Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah — decided to unite as one country. Ras Al Khaimah joined a year later. My favorite is the flagpole and the UAE 🇦🇪 fluttering in the wind, visible from miles reminding the strength of unity. #mydubai#unionhousedubai#landmark#ethiadmuseum#unionhouseflag#unity#emirates#sevenemirates#sheikzayed#museum#nikonmea#architecture#inspirationalarchitect#123meterflagpole#bluehourphotography
Food photography often calls upon textured backgrounds i.e. wood, stones, even crumpled wax like paper, and for good reason as it plays an important visual role in the same way that back-up singers play the supporting role to the lead singer.
Finding myself at the Dubai Fishmarket, their are no shortages of ‘lead singers’ aka FISH, but on this day I was hard-pressed to find ‘background’ singers, until, whizzing by me, I catch the wind of one of the local workers, tasked with unloading fresh fish from nearby bins, into his well used wheel barrow, delivering them to a specific vendor in the covered market a mere 50 yards away.
Most of these weathered and worn wheelbarrows are green but the one that went whizzing by me was a well worn red and green!
Immediately, I ran after him, and within a minute or two, and after ‘renting’ his wheelbarrow at the great price of $2 for 15 minutes, I had my ‘background singers’ who would soon be calling attention to the ‘choir’ of fish that now sat atop it!
The very textured and very colorful wheelbarrow serves a simple purpose of bringing the ‘music and harmony’ to the very monochromatic color of the choir of fish. You keep shooting!
