Happy Monday Everyone! Jason Stopa, one of our MFA Faculty, recently showed at the Steven Harvey Fine Arts Project with his show "The Gate." Happy Monday Everyone! Past NHIA visiting faculty Leslie Jamison’s new book “The Recovering: Intoxication and Its Aftermath” is a hybrid of academic research and memoir about alcoholism in writers and ultimately proves that writing while sober, about sobriety, is more interesting and richer than writing about alcoholic behavior.
Join our MFA community to learn from amazing faculty like Leslie! http://www.nhia.edu/mfa.
@bengobenjo and I wandered over to #alleycatpizza in #ManchesterNH today. This place gets a lot of hype...but we were a little disappointed. Cheap pepperoni, too much cheese, and the slice couldn't hold itself up very well. I really like thin crust pizza but this one just didn't cut it, #onebiteeveryoneknowstherules it's a straight up 6. It's redeeming quality would be that if I were an art student across the street at #nhia this would get the job done nicely.
I've decided to try applying underglazes to my pottery. This will allow me to add color to the images I carve. I will be doing some testing at the end of August to see how the underglazes work best on the materials I use. I'm excited to change it up a bit. Eventually, I'd like to incorporate slip trailing as well and have more layer and depth to my surfaces.
It was so helpful to get out this excellent book as I read up on underglazes. It is written by the woman who started it all for me, Maureen Mills. She was the first ceramics professor I had in college and she mentored me throughout my time at NHIA. She is still generous with her knowledge and her work is always inspiring. I'm very grateful for her influence! I use her pots daily and never tire of their form, texture and beauty.
This acceptance letter was the start of my future, so excited to be leaving for college soon! I have many friends and family who encouraged me with my art and I am thankful. I'm ready for this new experience, thank you all ❤❤❤
