Shaving off another lump of block for benching today - didn't get 150kg, but 140kg moved well enough 👍 I'd like to believe I've reached a height that is sticking point in my regular bench, making this height harder than it should be, but I think it's more likely that 150 was just a bit too ambitious of a goal for this time frame (reducing height each week). After watching @_td36 & @dayday9912 working on Sat. a.m., &  after watching several JV & Freshman FB games recently, makes us continuously ask the question, how do we develop our young players?!

After watching 4 weeks of football, so far this year, the same STILL holds true.......the MOVERS win!!

The first program in this area that embraces this philosophy, will separate themselves from the competition, exponentially! Neuromuscular coordination on the field, trumps neuromuscular coordination in the weight room (big 3 lifts) EVERYDAY! If an athlete struggles to coordinate open field, multiplanar movement, how is that athlete able to succeed on a field, 100x54yds, in a chaotic environment?! ______________
This holds true especially for linemen. So many linemen we’ve seen, this year, simply, cannot MOVE! Size & strength mean absolutely nothing IF you cannot reposition yourself, adapt and track opponents that “MOVE”! Ergo, the 3x3 athlete, due to the fact that the entire physical preparation for this athlete, took place in a 3x3 ft area in the weight room , during the entire off season!

Getting the axle bar out for overhead today and trying out the continental clean 👊 as the axle bar is just a large lump of iron with no rotating parts, when the weight gets heavy it's tricky to get up into the rack position with a normal clean movement - so one option is to power deadlift the bar up to the sternum, lean back and catch it on top of the abs/power belly, sort out the hands and mini clean it up to the rack position ready to press overhead 👍 I've put on some fat, but not enough to build a good shelf for the bar to sit on - fortunately my overhead game is pretty rubbish, so my grip is able to handle cleaning the weight up from the floor to press overhead. Overall a pretty unpleasant movement, but there are a few slightly different methods to get the axle bar up - rumour has it there's a few Russians that use a kind of power Zercher squat to heave the bar up to the shoulders 🤔 fun fact: before the modern barbell with rotating sleeves was invented, getting the axle from the floor to your shoulders without touching or resting it on your abdomen was known as a clean lift, and that's where the clean got it's name from 🌟 afterwards hit 75kg on the strict press for 3's to get more shoulder work in 👊 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Working with the bands again for squats - still haven't gotten any luggage scales to see what the band resistance is at the top, so used the classic "add weight until it's difficult" method 👍 adding 175kg to the bar for the heavy single and using 150kg for doubles 👊 following up with trap bar frame carries with about 160kg, aiming to take short quick steps to keep my balance while trying to move a little quicker. ⚡ The trap bar is easier to control than two independent Farmer's handles or heavy dumbbells, but it has the same effect - building greater stability at the core, hips, knees and ankles, and if you go heavy enough you can feel it working everything from the top of your head down to your toes to stay upright and keep stepping forward 💪 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Terra traveled from New Mexico and just finished her first day of Next Level Training.

This is one amazing lady right here! I’ve been working with Kim Petralia since December 2017. But her journey started way before me. The photo on the right is 8 years ago and the photo on the left was last Saturday. She had already made great progress before contacting me with the desire to compete in a figure show this fall and wanting to improve tremendously on her look for her last figure show.  The second photo is comparing when she started with me in December until now. Like some of my other clients Ive posted about recently, we started building muscle and then cutting for her show on November 10 and she’s made AWESOME progress. What’s special about Kim is that she has thyroid disease which complicates things. So we did a complete diet overhaul and eliminated many food sources that where giving her issues. And she has felt SO much better and made more progress than she’s ever made before! This is one determined, dedicated and passionate lady and I’m so incredibly proud of her! 💙💙

Back to regular equipment for this week's grip gauntlet, featuring single arm hangs, finger curls and a plate sandwich 🥪
Single arm hang: just grab onto the bar with one hand, and hang on for as long as possible - your arm may twist a little as your body moves, so make sure you've done a wee shoulder warm up beforehand. If you can't hold on with one hand, just hold on with both hands until you've built up more endurance 💪 
Finger curls: going for weight here, so I only managed 5-6 reps at a time. The aim is to hold the bar in the fingers and curl it up to close your fist 👊 
Plate sandwich: using the rubber coated plates so the weight is easier to hold onto,  aiming to hold onto as many 5kg plates as possible - any combo of small plates will do, the thicker the sandwich the harder it is to hold onto as the finger flexors are more stretched out 🖐️ ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Mixing it up lately! On Sunday, I ran the Fox Valley Half Marathon. I always go into running races expecting not to place well since I’m a triathlete and that makes me 1/3 runner, but I actually did decently well! I got 2nd in my age group (technically 3rd but the first place Girl was top 3 overall so they removed her from our age group) and 11th overall out of 807 females running! Top 1.5% isn’t too bad! I was still a little disappointed with my time. I was on pace to stay sub 1:40 for at least half of it and then just started slowing down. I still PRed my half marathon by a few minutes in a race setting and I hope this just means I’m slowly moving towards where I want to be with my running!

Day 3 #nextleveltraining with @zorayajudd was nothing short of AWESOME! Over our 3 days of training we did 17 hours of pole and lined up all of my off the pole workouts until the next time I get to train with Zoraya! I really can’t adequately describe just how happy, inspired, excited and grateful I feel right now. I also cannot adequately describe how exhausted, sore and bruised I am. 😂🙈😨 I love every second I get with Zoraya and learn SO much about pole, myself, my potential, how to be a better human and how to reach my goals.
