Please Send To: Ray Johnson is our second of three exhibitions to open this Saturday! It features over 30 works by the famously reclusive artist, the majority of which are classified as Mail Art, a movement pioneered by Johnson in the 1950s. Ray Johnson sent small, mixed-media works to a network of fellow artists through the post, instructing them to intervene in the original work or forward the materials to another person. Mail Art offered Johnson alternative modes of circulating ideas and gaining recognition, and one could argue that these subversive methods anticipated the digital dissemination of images through platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Don’t miss this amazing show curated by our very own Jess Frost, Associate Curator of The Permanent Collection. If you’re a Guild Hall Member, please come to our Private Member Reception at 5pm this Saturday, October 20. Not a Member yet? Join the family and receive access to Receptions like this and so many other perks! Registration is required - head over to guildhall.org to join us!

⚖"WHAT WOULD YOU PUT ON THE SECOND SCALE?" (Русская версия👉 комментарии)
👩🎨 ELENA ARDOR
🎨 Tempera, 40*50cm
According to one mystical theory🔮- our live is similar to the scales. When we want to get smth, we have to "put" smth else on the second bowl to balance the scales.
In simple terms- "to get one thing, you have to give another one". For example, if you want to have good results 🧗in anything, you have to give your time, refusing from some leisure and so on😏
There are more difficult choices. For example, often if you have a serious career or a successful business💸, there is little time left for personal life and family. Conversely, if you're a model father or mother👨👩👧👦, you have no career at all🤦🏻. Maybe you have a work, but the sky-high heights are absent.
Another example: to get something very desirable, life offers you to go on the transaction with conscience😬 or to sacrifice your principles😱. The choice is always yours.
It is very difficult to "catch the right balance"🏄♂️ and make a decent choice in pursuit of the desired.
Personally I don't compromise my principles and make any deals with my conscience. In the rest I seek the balance. To be ideal everywhere is physically impossible🙄. So I divide my forces and time to get the result accorging to the law of Pareto: "20% of efforts give 80% of a result"😉👻
💭Are you ready to do anything to get what you want? ⠀
🗯What are you ready to sacrifice in order to balance your scales?
