When your pup has had you up since 2 am with a upset tummy you finally edit your videos😴 looks like an early am workout today. Put the coffe on... Nevermind I don’t drink coffee. Wish I had a latte machine🤪 #newobsession#poodlemomma#furmommalife
That hyper focus, new obsession pull is so tempting though! However... learning to pace myself when a new hobby or passion or big change catches my eye has made the biggest difference in making sure I find things I stick to in the long run--without impulsively spending a bunch of money on supplies, classes, memberships, etc. One way I pace myself is by making myself use the free (or cheapest) version for X amount of time before I can buy the next level. ••• For example, I used the free version of Memrise for about a year to make sure my love for language learning wasn't a phase before I let myself buy the premium. I had been using the free wordpress version for multiple years before I bought a paid domain. I took pictures of flowers on my phone for almost forever before I bought a camera. And you know what? Those hobbies have lasted and I find so much joy in them! ••• I can't say the same for the times I thought I would get into watercolor painting, documentary film making, or running at the gym and spent a bunch of money upfront. Wish I would have made myself paint with cheap supplies, made short films with my phone first, and ran outside before spending money on nice brushes and a video camera and a gym membership ••• The new obsession high is REAL with ADHD. I've almost always regretted giving into it completely. But I've never regretted limiting HOW MUCH I give in initially (because where's the fun if you don't give in a little, right?). If it's truly something you'll be into long term, that fire will persist as your pace yourself. ••• How do you pace yourself?
