I read a post last night from the amazing @elizabeth_gilbert_writer about anger. .
Your anger is a sign that somebody has crossed a boundary. Your anger will subside as soon as the space between you is correct and appropriate again.
This hit home for me but in a slightly different way than what was spoken about in this post.
I get angry at home sometimes seemingly for no real reason but feeling like I need to escape and can’t. Insert the old disclaimer... of course I love my family and my kids! However, sometimes the space between us needs widening for me to be at my best for myself and as a mother and wife. I happen to be the sort of person who requires plenty of space and quiet just to function. .
It got me thinking about the boundaries we can work on setting at home and creating space between myself and my family to allow us all to be calmer and happier.
Here’s some ideas I’m going to be implementing...
💫Taking time in the morning before my husband leaves for work to either walk, meditate or enjoy a cup of tea in peace.
💫 While the kids are home, having activities set up to keep them occupied while I take a tea break in a nearby room during the day.
💫 Taking the kids to a cafe with play space so I can enjoy peace while they are happily occupied.
💫 Having hubby take the kids out on the weekend for an hour or two alone or divide the kids between us and go separate ways to give the kids a break from each other and the sibling rivalry.
💫 Using headphones 🎧 to give myself some peace in the crazy moments at home when taking a break isn’t really an option.
💫 Another thing I’ve been loving lately is at night turning on some chill out music 🎶 and just enjoying the quiet once the kids are in bed. Hubby goes to the gym often when kids are in bed so this is a great little space for me to breathe and chill.
Parenting is amazing and relentless all in one and we need to be able to preserve our energy and take care of our space so that we can keep going. .
Do you have boundaries to preserve your energy and create space in your family? Or do you not find you need it? .

When we began this little expedition, we wondered what we would see 👀, would we visit cities 🌇, stay in the forests 🌲, see the landmarks 🗽, never leave camp 🏡??? Some people go on journeys seeking out the Naional Parks 🌅, or entertainment 🎡, or beaches 🌴, or farms 🚜, or Walmart parking lots 🚐. We didn't know what we'd seek when we started, other than visit all 50 🇺🇸 states over a year (it's looking like longer now that we're doing it). And three months later, we still don't know, so we seek them all out. Its kinda nice. Other than there's a lot of people in cities, duh, and we've never really been big groups of people kind of people... Hence the reason we're not walking on the sidewalk in this picture. We found a place in Boston where there weren't as many people, and so we walked there. .
