All-time candy obsessions. Sometimes, I do crave chocolate, caramel or fruity things, but peppermint & black licorice have always been favorites. I love these particular brands because of their simplicity. Red Bird Peppermint Puffs have been made in NC since 1890. Just three ingredients: cane sugar, invert sugar & peppermint oil. I love that they melt in my mouth. They’re very addicting! Panda Licorice is 90 years old this year & has 4 ingredients. Molasses is the first. That always gives aniseed & licorice a smoother flavor. It’s other ingredient is wheat flour. Unfortunately, it’s made in Finland, & is increasingly hard to find in my area. And when I do, it’s pricey. @Kroger used to carry both, but they don’t anymore. I bought my last bags on Amazon. I know these aren’t the popular candies of today, but hey, I’m a child of the 50’s. Candy was a rare treat when I was a kid, so we loved it all! Even spongy circus peanuts & Necco wafers. Butterscotch disks, filled raspberry hard candies & sticky, sugary orange slices were things my grandma always had in dishes. And she always had gum...Beemans, Black Jack & Juicy Fruit, sometimes a Fruit Stripe or Wrigley’s. I miss those days. #olddays#reminiscing#imissmayberry#candy#licorice#peppermint#orangeslices#butterscotch#neccowafers#fruitstripegum#beemans#wrigleys#blackjackgum#juicyfruit#gum#pandalicorice#redbirdpeppermintpuffs#allnatural#nongmo
Get yourself the kinds of friends that will get Indian takeout with you on a Friday night, and then another friend who closes down a community coffee shop at the end of the week and surprises you with #neccowafers . People who you play board games with AND go to Riot Fest with. These are the raddest kind of people.🏆 @billabike @mikemodlindesigns @theconstantcraig
Savoring these for what maybe the last time but I know that even when I can no longer find them in stores I'll always have the sweet memory that I associate with these candies. Check my blog for more on this. #neccowafers
