Inspired by @girlpowersupply and their dedicated posts on indigenous people for the coming holiday we would also like to contribute!
It is well recorded in the journals of the Spanish conquistadors that the Indian people not only committed mass suicide but the Taino mothers killed their children first because they knew that death was better than living a life time of pain and servitude.
“The Indians destroyed their stores of bread so that neither they nor the invaders would be able to eat it. They plunged off cliffs, they poisoned themselves with roots, and they starved themselves to death. Oppressed by the impossible requirement to deliver tributes of gold, the Indians were no longer able to tend their fields, or care for their sick, children, and elderly. They had given up and committed mass suicide to avoid being killed or captured by Christians, and to avoid sharing their land with them, their fields, groves, beaches, forests, and women: the future of their people.” @vox
I started following my dream when these two were in pampers. Even though I was scared of so many things. Doubts. Overthinking. I had so many fears. I would look at my baby girls and think I have to do what I love. In honor of my girls. Even though I’m scared. I want them to see me following my passion so they can! I’ll show them how to do that. I’ll lead them. Anytime I wanted to give up. I’d look at them. They’d both be looking up at me. Watching me. Laughing like me. Joking like me. Dancing like me. Everything I’ve learned from my mom, grandmas, and aunties. I’m passing those teachings on to them. Do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life. That’s the truth! Credit @toniajohall
