Pristine Crater Lake. When we visited at the end of summer, the park was filled with wildfire smoke, and the visibility from the rim road was hazy. But once we hiked down the lake, the color was simply breathtaking. Loved the experience.
Got the first trip of the upcoming year on the calendar and couldn’t be more excited to dip my feet into the world of ultra running at the @madmoose.events Behind the Rocks 50k! Stoke tank is very full for this upcoming Moab trip and for the training process to commence!
Avalanche Lake is always a good choice for a quick hike with some breathtaking views. During summer I like to go early in the morning, late in the day or at least during the week to avoid the busier crowds ⛰
The bright sunrise glows throughout Hoh Rainforest as I stand among the foliage silently towering above. Without experiencing this firsthand, it's difficult to put the magnitude of the forest into perspective. It has a way of showing our insignificance in such a massive world.
For my 100th post, I figured I’d post a picture with 3 of my favorite things. A new day, Maui, and a National Park.
Freezing for the sunrise while above the clouds, at over 10,000ft at Haleakalā National Park. 🥶 IT. WAS. SO. COLD. We even dressed warm, but it wasn’t enough.
When a bird poops it’s about to take off. I photographed this pair of eagles on Friday, as did a few other passerby’s. I watched as one person crept closer and closer to the birds, taking pictures the whole time, until the eagles finally stuck up their tail feathers and pooped. I thought, “okay, backoff, you’re freaking them out.” The person took another step and one of the birds took off. I thought, “surely, you’ll turn around now”, but no, the person took another step towards the remaining bird, and another until it too flew off. This person then turned on a dime and walked straight back to their car. “Mission accomplished” I thought with a sigh. We’ve got to respect these animals and give them the space they require. Want to get closer? Fine, but watch for the signs. If an animal changes it’s behavior because of your presence you are too close. Shoot from your car. I started much closer to these birds but was in my car the whole time, using it like a blind. Let the animals come to you. What the person who scared them didn’t know is that there was a third Eagle. Had we all waited patiently we may have been treated to an even more spectacular sight.

"Play takes place in a condition of freedom - that is to say, it IS the condition of freedom. In play, the individual interacts with the forces around her rather than reacting to them, creates the context for her actions as she acts rather than passively being shaped by the situation: it is thus that self-determinstion is possible."
