The ancient city of Petra in Jordan is one of the great sights of the Middle East. It offers a nice contrast to the many Roman ruins in the Mediterranean region, which can become quite dull once you’ve seen a few. To many, Petra is perhaps most familiar as the location of the final scenes of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusader. In any case, a visit here is highly recommended!

This is a place you have to see. It’s been in movies and television, but that doesn’t compare to being there in person. Don’t miss the night ceremony and be sure to give yourself at least a week to see this extremely friendly country.

🇯🇴👣 This is a favorite place of all travel bloggers. most people buy group excursions to Petra. You need to know that this route does not enter there because of its danger, there are no stairs, ropes or insurance. Local Bedouin guys for a symbolic $ 10 are ready to take you there. They will also make you great shots and help you during the descent, but no one is responsible for you and does not guarantee safety.👣🇯🇴 это излюбленное место всех тревел блогеров.

Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan
Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) - Petra, Jordan. Petra was established ~4th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra's proximity to the trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub Petra became the focus of their wealth. The Kingdom's capital continued to flourish until the 1st century AD when its population peaked at an estimated 20,000 inhabitants. By 700AD, the city had been abandoned, and it wasn't 'rediscovered' until 1812.

The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it's carved. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage".

Petra, Jordan 🇯🇴 In the heart of summer, the hike to Al Deir or Ad Deir (The Monastery الدير ) isn’t an easy one. The 40 plus degree heat with little to no shade, may seem like self inflicted torture, but I give you my word, it’s all worth it!! I personally did it by sticking in my earphones and selecting my favorite music set of all time #astateoftrance 200 and off I went😍😍 All the while believing that nothing worth seeing is easily found😬😬😬 travel tip: unlike the Al-Khazneh (الخزنة;The Treasury) not many travelers will venture all the way up to the monastery. The climb, the 850 odd steps and the heat isn't for everyone 😊 So go early - like before sunrise and you will be one of the 1st to enjoy the treasury, then make your way up so you get there before the midday sun is beating down!!

Nabataean Kingdom, established in 4th century BC, was founded by various nomadic Bedouin tribes. This kingdom has a total area of 200,000 square kilometers covering present countries like Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel and Palestine. Raqmu was designated as the capital which was later renamed Petra (meaning Rock) when it was annexed by the Roman empire.

The Nabataeans were one of several nomadic tribes that roamed the Arabian Desert. However, they distinguished themselves from the rest in power and wealth by gaining control of the trade routes between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. Although their kingdom is no more, they left behind their cultural heritage for posterity to marvel at, especially the caravan-city of Raqmu, modern-day Petra, the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom. Although Petra was settled as early as 9,000 BC, it was the Nabataeans who built its iconic architecture. This hidden city is accessed via a mile-long narrow canyon named Bab Al Siq at the end of which the city begins to reveals itself. Prepare to be enthralled by the many magnificent buildings, tombs, and temples carved into the red sandstone cliffs and featuring a blend of Greco-Roman and Eastern architectural elements. It’s most famous structure is the Al Khazneh, believed to be the mausoleum of Nabataean King Aretas IV. Ad-Deir is the second most popular attraction here. The High Place of Sacrifice, accessible after a long hike into the mountains, rewards visitors with a spectacular overhead view of Petra. The place is magical and mysterious and steeped in history. Worth a visit in one’s lifetime.

- 25 - The Siq - Petra, Jordan The Siq is the main entrance to Petra; a narrow gorge that winds for 1.2km (.75mi), and ends at the Treasury. - The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it's carved. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage". - Photo Cred: @amartabno - #thesiq  #siq  #petrasiq  #alkhazneh  #alkhaznehtreasury  #thetreasury  #petratreasury  #petra  #rosecity  #rockcity  #ancientcity  #nabataean  #nabataens  #nabataeankingdom  #unesco  #jordan  #100days100countries  #travel

In April 2009 , Grandmother , mother and I ventured into Jordan. A journey of a lifetime. Two places remain deeply routed in my heart : The Wadi Rum desert and its lunar scapes and Petra, this wonder of the World. Mohamed , our guide, recommended that rather than jump on a donkey and ride it we gently strolled down and through the Siq and feel the ancient Nabatean City draw us in. It was peaceful , early morning with no crowds , a beautiful stroll to finally encounter the MOST beautiful site ever . A dream, a mirage #Petra#,originally known as Raqmu ,is a historical and archaeological city in southern #Jordan#. Petra lies on the slope of Jabal Al-Madbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of #Arabahvalley# that run from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Established possibly as early as the 4th century BC as the capital city of the #NabataeanKingdom#. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra's proximity to the trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub. It remained an unknown place until it was rediscovered by Swiss explorer #Johann Ludwig Burckhardt#in #1812# sparking renewed interest in the city.
