Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
The Axeman of New Orleans, New Orleans, 1918-1919.
On March 14, 1919 Times-Picayune newspaper recieved one of the most famous serial killer letters ever. In the letter, the killer was gloating about his accomplishments, stating that he is invisible and will never get caught, but the most interesting part of the letter was the killer mentioning the events, that will unfold on March 19 (Picture 4). The Axeman stated that on March 19, he would be passing over New Orleans, and since he was fond of jazz music, he would spare every person in whose home a jazz band was in full swing. Everyone else would get the axe.
On the said day, the music could be heard from homes across much of the city, the dance halls were filled and bands played jazz at parties at hundreds of houses around city. As promised, that night no one was killed (Picture 2)
The killings stopped for a few weeks, but on August 10, Steve Boca (another grocer) was attacked while sleeping. He survived the attack, but could not remember anything that went on that night. On September 2, a local druggist named William Carson defended himself against the axeman, when he fired several shots at intruder, who then escaped. The next day a young girl named Sarah Laumann was attacked, but she too, survived the attack.
Everything was quiet for two months, until the last attack was executed, when grocer Mike Pepitone (Picture 3) was slained, on October 27. Pepitone is the last known victim of the Axeman. Afterwards the murderer was never seen or heard from in New Orleans ever again.

Love how dark and mysterious this is.
I don't feel frightened not knowing things, by being lost in a mysterious universe without any purpose, which is the way it really is as far as I can tell.
