A couple of years ago I began to organize much of my sewing info via #Microsoftonenote and I’m so pleased with how it’s worked out. I’ve recorded front and back of all the patterns I own (digital as well as paper), my fabric inventory, sewing plans, wish lists, and a detailed record of each item I’ve made (which I review when I re-make a pattern). I’m also working on adding tags to the patterns so I can easily sort to find what I own by garment type. The best part is that all of this is synchronized across my desktop, tablet, and phone. If anyone is looking for a way to organize their sewing I would definitely recommend One Note 😉. #sewing#sewingorganization#onenote#patternstash#mypatternstash @lovetosew.podcast
I know I'm a little late to the party @lovetosew.podcast but I've finally organized #mypatternstash . Picture 1 is my pdfs in ziplocs and a box from @ikeacanada in the linen closet with my yarn winder that I'm not smart enough to fit back in its box🤔Picture 2 is the before, picture 3 is the organization, blue boxes are @bigso_box , and hold my paper paterns , picture 4 is ikea cabinet where the two blue boxes fit nicely 👍...room for more paper patterns, but new pdfs, not so much. I think i'll have to move some to storage locker😕
Inspired by the pattern stash episode on the @lovetosew.podcast Here are my numbers! I was actually surprised by how many I've made! The binders at bottom right store my printed pdfs, left is the basic org of my Dropbox #mypatternstash#ottawasews
I always love to try new organisation systems so when I saw @helens__closet 's blog post about how to organise a pattern collection with Trello, I immediately got to work to emulate 😁 It was a lot of work getting all the images but also incredibly fun. I try to put the most inspiring photo as cover for each pattern, usually from the designer but also occasionally from bloggers. I can feel my sewjo hitting max level as I was doing it 😆 And answering @lovetosew.podcast 's call - I've got 76 patterns in total (excl. pattern books), all but one are from indie designers and roughly 1/3 are made 😄 I think with this I can happily go on a pattern 'fast' now for at least the next few months 😅
@begglet the tags on #evernote aren’t in my original blog post but this is how I use them;
On each note there’s a little ℹ️ at the top. I give the note a title which includes a description of the garment then click the i.
Swipe left to see the tags I’ve added to this note.
Swipe left to see how you can then filter using the tags. If you access Evernote on your pc I think you can use more than one tag at once but I’ve not found a way to apply multiple tag filters on my phone
@lovetosew.podcast since you asked... #mypatternstash is in a binder that is quickly becoming too full! Each pattern is in a heavy-duty page protector. I didn't realize I was in a page protector club! I have been sewing almost 3 months and have about 12 patterns... (Our #1 household rule is NO CATS ON THE TABLE but she joined the photo so I had to widen the shot)
Listened to @lovetosew.podcast yesterday and it made me pull down my small pattern stash and get inspired again - I'm clearly a @deer_and_doe_patterns fangirl - these are all the d&d patterns I've "collected" over the past 1.5 years -anytime there's a pattern sale I go for these 😂... However, I haven't made a single one! 😭So I'm putting a Hoya blouse in the pictured pink fabric on my list for January! 🤞 So many plans and dreams - my hands can't keep up with my head 🤷♀️
#mypatternstash is pretty big, apparently, after listening to this week's @lovetosew.podcast . My vintage 60's Butterick pattern cabinet* is full of new patterns, while I store my vintage patterns in acid-free comic book sleeves in Ikea boxes, and my larger patterns and PDFs are in a regular filing cabinet.
* My pattern cabinet is about 90% refinished. It was dirty, rusty and beat up when I got it. My husband and I cleaned and sanded it and painted it. I plan on relettering Butterick patterns on the top and labeling each drawer. This 60's cabinet was made for narrower patterns, so I have to store them sideways.
Nov 17 #bpsewvember -- Impulse Buy: I have a serious problem with impulse buying patterns. Those $1.99 McCall's sales get me almost every time. And then there was the 99cent New Look sale this summer....you get the point. Embarrassingly enough, this is only 2/3rd of my collection, as I have another dozen or so PDF patterns.
And this is why I can't buy any new patterns for a while.... Oh but the @mccallpatterncompany holiday release..... #pleasedontjudgeme
Retroactively adding the #mypatternstash tag. I really enjoyed all the organization tips on the recent @lovetosew.podcast -- now I just need to find some time to implement them!
