I love lunges, cause they’re one of those exercises that work a bunch muscles at the same time. It’s pretty much all in one!

🔑 points for hip hinging movements:
➡️ Movement comes from the hips instead of the spine. Your back should be pretty flat the whole time.
➡️ Keep a soft knee - that means a slight bend  instead of locked, straight knees.
➡️ Think about pressing hips back. A good way to practice this is by setting up a foot from a wall and pressing butt back to touch the wall.
➡️ While pressing butt back, resist arching your low back and letting your ribs flare. Pull the ribs down and keep a braced core while you move. This takes practice, so be patient! .
➡️ Pay attention to your feet! Weight is more towards your heels but keep those toes down! Your foot is a tripod — keep big toe, little toe, and heel down on the ground.
➡️ Neutral chin! Fun fact - your chest follows your eyes. When we extend our neck up, we tend to excessively arch the back as well. Tuck your chin and think about maintaining a straight line from ear to hip.

It’s what you eat 80% of the time that matters. That one cookie, or those couple drinks are not likely going to make you gain weight.

Hip is moving in extension and in flexion activating the hip extensors a.k.a the 🍑and the hip flexors. HOWEVER, the real challenge is keeping the trunk especially the lumbar region in check to make sure that it does not compensate for any lack of movement at the hip

🙋‍♀️The added bonus to this movement is checking on how you transfer the load from one leg to another. Full weight on one leg and taking note of how your body moves as it transfers that full weight onto the other leg is very Very cool, IMO. Then even better, check to see how your body moves on the opposite side repeating those same movements

Understanding how you transfer load through your legs should be of an interest to you if you perform any alternating movements, such as walking, running, climbing stairs. If you are not transferring the load optimally, these simple daily activities may create repeated stress to your joints and to your muscles, eventually creating injuries.

2️⃣ 10 kneeling “Y” landmine press

Similar to the dead bug, this is a phenomenal exercise to work on midline stability and maintain a neutral spine. While it’s often rushed through, when done slowly and controlled, this exercise and its variations really challenge whole body stability. .

➡️ Set up in a quadruped position, with hands under shoulders and knees under hips. .
.
➡️ Tuck ribs and brace core. Think about having “active shoulders” by pressing shoulders away from ground.
.
. ➡️ Take an inhale through your nose and on the exhale extend opposite arm and leg. Think about reaching for the wall in front and behind you.
.
. ➡️ There should not be much shifting, rotating or flexing/extending through this movement. The arms and legs move while the midline remains still and engaged.

. ➡️ This step is key: squeeze the glute of the extended leg. Most often I see people arch their back when extending; rather extend by squeezing glute. If you’re not sure, take a video or do this in front of a mirror. .
. ➡️ Hold extended position for a few seconds before returning to start. Repeat for 6-10 reps per side.

➡️ If this is easy, try adding a band, elevating your knees, or incorporating a crawl with knees elevated. That’s when the “fun” starts!

5. Drive through your heels

I learned this when I was 23 only after my hip surgeries (unfortunately). I was a dancer and I thought I was super strong. And I was- but I was only strong at what I did every day. I had no idea how much I should have been doing outside of the studio to complement my dancing and to protect my joints. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Talked about this on my stories the other day (see mini trainings highlight) but in case you missed it, here are my 4 best booty growth hacks!⁣

1. RESISTANCE ⁣
In order for any muscle to grow, you must create resistance against it whether thats bodyweight, bands, or weights. The goal is to rip the muscle fibers apart so they can grow back bigger and stronger. ⁣

Your body is very smart and adapts to the weights you’re using so you always have to switch it up! Use more weight/different exercises over time. ⁣
⁣
2. EAT FOOD⁣
Ok girl. Please dont be scared to eat. Your muscles (dat booty) #glutesthatsalute NEED adequate food, real food, to grow. Having a good balance of healthy proteins carbs and fats will equal optimal booty gains okkkk. Eat. Food.⁣
⁣
3. REST AND SLEEP⁣
ohhhhh man. This is i think the most underrated hack. Muscles grow when they are RESTING. Not in the gym. Rip em apart in the gym, they repair themselved bigger and stronger at rest. So so important. Rest and get a good amount of sleep every night! ⁣
⁣
4. TIME AND CONSISTENCY ⁣
I know. Its hard... the hardest part imo.. natural muscle growth takes time. And it takes hard work over and over again. If it was easy, butt implants wouldnt be a thing and everyone would have a huge 🍑⁣

I woke up yesterday to finish turning 50.  Although I had tickets to 2 different cities to finish off the year...as God would have it I had to stand .... right here in power.  And not be moved! So I was gonna start the final celebration with a morning nap....and I was really looking forward to it.

Then.... God sent me a gift so powerful...it confirmed that this is his plan.  It came on the day I was given my life.  It confirmed that everything in my life that had prepared me for this day had happened for a reason and that this was the exact spot where I should stand in my power and not be moved (even to a warmer more festive spot). To be 50 and realize that it wasn't all chaos, it was a plan...God's plan... and then there was a moment where I felt like my life was on purpose.  To be involved in the progress towards a greater good in the world....it is the greatest gift of all.  I truly would not be here without the love and support.  My village is strong.

After my post from yesterday you might think working the upper trapezius is going to fix all my shoulder and neck problems. However, we can’t neglect the rest of the body. The upper traps aren’t often the only issue. The lower traps are likely still going to be inhibited and need to be strengthened along with the upper traps. Try this exercise. For this exercise we want to keep the shoulders down and away from the ears and the bum on the heels to lock the lower back. The forehead should remain rested on the bench as you lift the bar up towards the ceiling. Looks like I have a few other things to work on when I watch myself do the exercise.
