From Sprawling Lowland Cedars, to sandy beaches and boulders, to alpine hikes and swims. Return to the Source is a movement seminar unlike any other in deeply reconnecting to nature and experiencing the diversity of its majesty. Last year was our first year adding the alpine element to this adventure and we are so happy to have done so. I have seen little else that get adults releasing childlike giggles like sliding on snow, and there is nothing quite so refreshing as bathing in a glacial lake while witnessing the beauty of the north cascades.

After 6-7 months of grinding I can finally open up into a single leg front lever and hold for at least 10 seconds. A lot of people don't realize the work it takes to achieve moves like the front and back lever, it takes dedication, consistency, and good programming to accomplish these skills. Super pleased with how my progress and next up is either the full lever or straddle lever depending on how my progress goes. Not easy to pull of a lever at a height of 6'2, and it seemed so far away. It is such a crazy feeling when you been working toward something for 6-7 months and finally get to see the results. I know 6-7 months is not a long time but this is just one progression toward achieving one movement. There are many more! .

Beware of the quick fix, the In a Weekend Fix. There’s definitely a lot of impact that can happen in that time but the real work begins when the workshop is over. It may take you trying different coaches, different seminars, reading different philosophies and then applying it all. We learn as we do. And what we can learn is that we don’t need to follow any one person for the “How”. We’re actually able to take a little of everything to create our own personal life guide. •

Beware of the quick fix, the In a Weekend Fix. There’s definitely a lot of impact that can happen in that time but the real work begins when the workshop is over. It may take you trying different coaches, different seminars, reading different philosophies and then applying it all. We learn as we do. Final week of the fair and it’s truly been a rollercoaster! Going through 5 shows a day, 5 days a week has definitely taken a toll on my body, but it’s also reminded me the need to rest and recover.  As an athlete, it’s important to remember that, while our bodies can give us so much, we also need to treat it with the love and respect it deserves. If you’re asking a lot, up the ante of how you’re recharging. The same recovery strategies won’t work with a heavier workload unless you make some adaptations. From Sprawling Lowland Cedars, to sandy beaches and boulders, to alpine hikes and swims. Return to the Source is a movement seminar unlike any other in deeply reconnecting to nature and experiencing the diversity of its majesty. Last year was our first year adding the alpine element to this adventure and we are so happy to have done so. I have seen little else that get adults releasing childlike giggles like sliding on snow, and there is nothing quite so refreshing as bathing in a glacial lake while witnessing the beauty of the north cascades.

How much are you working on your mobility every week? How about stability exercises? How are your compound lifts going? So many important questions I love to hear about from everyone I train both in person and online! And now I can get detailed answers on the day, everyday! 💻 ⬜️ Science has shown us that regularity beats quantity. If you stretch for an hour a day or 20 minutes a day IT DOESN’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE, as long as you’re working on your problem areas for approximately 6 days a week or 6x total sessions per muscle group (so you could do 2x sessions short a day for 3 days a week). ⬜️ The point is why waste your time doing something for an hour when you can get the same result in 20? That’s the benefit of having a coach: you can have your posture assessed and movement analysed, then have your online coaching program adjusted. All as scientifically as possible. For OCD notebook carrying 📓 and graph making 📊nerds like me, it’s a field day of getting to put your skills to scientific testing and get results faster and faster with each injury rehabilitation session or movement coaching session. After 6-7 months of grinding I can finally open up into a single leg front lever and hold for at least 10 seconds. A lot of people don't realize the work it takes to achieve moves like the front and back lever, it takes dedication, consistency, and good programming to accomplish these skills. Super pleased with how my progress and next up is either the full lever or straddle lever depending on how my progress goes. Not easy to pull of a lever at a height of 6'2, and it seemed so far away. It is such a crazy feeling when you been working toward something for 6-7 months and finally get to see the results. I know 6-7 months is not a long time but this is just one progression toward achieving one movement. There are many more! .

We’re taking a short break from camping to catch up on our computer stuff and I happened to notice how Chris was holding his head and neck while working. So not ideal! See those wrinkles at the back of his neck? Those are an indication that the tissues there - including the spine - are being scrunched up and compressed. We gave him a standing workstation instead and it was a lot easier for him to work in better alignment.

Most of us do a similar thing when looking at low screens. Keep your neck less compressed by tucking your chin slightly and gently sliding your head up and back in space so that the back of your neck stays long.

This term is so vague I want to create some clarity on what it means. A deeper breath should be one of awareness not of volume, that will come with ease as you deepen your relationship with your breath. Jump up, get your chin over the bar and hold it for as long as you possibly can. Another great exercise is to lower yourself as slow as possible on the way down or negative repetitions. Remember not to kip or swing yourself up as this can really put a lot of unnecessary stress on your shoulders.

Trying to figure out one area that is the cause for your back pain is very difficult. Release one spot and create tension in another because we do not function one muscle at a time.

Myofascial Meridians provides a much deeper and full understanding on what's happening. The human belt is made up of an intricate and amazing cooperation between multiple muscles functioning within a sheath of fascia. When one is tense, the belt reacts.

Coach @kitabusse was able to help me & @derek_giddings fine tune our movement over the course of a 2 day movement class with 180 Firearms Training. The #kitastage in this video was built on day 2. At the beginning of the day I shot this stage “cold" at 21 seconds. This time reflects how I probably would have shot it in a real match. My stage strategy was to group the targets into 3 shooting positions, and pretty much shoot all the targets standing still. (Note: this is why I need a movement class!!!) After working on a few movement drills which focused on physical steps and athleticism (not focused on shooting), we shot it again and I got my time down to 16 seconds. I used the same exact stage plan, but this time, I used my new movement skills to get to my 3 shooting positions “faster." I felt 16 seconds was realistically the best time that I could do, and was on par with my best times of similar stages at previous matches. 
Then we went on to do some "shooting while moving” drills. Kita gave me some corrections that made all the difference. Once I was able to control my shoulder elevation I was able to hit my targets consistently. We were then going to shoot the stage one last time. Kita set a condition, that we must shoot the last big popper on the move (at a minimum.) With this new condition, Derek figured out a more fluid stage plan which I also adopted. Start Position: Toes together.
Scoring: 3-Gun style, time plus. Any 2 hits on paper to neutralize, steel must fall to score.

A simple biomechanical assessment can identify a lower back arch dysfunction which is created by over active hip flexors, quad, lats & erector spinae. -
This movement dysfunction can lead to other complications if it isn’t addressed, especially if you weight train.

Inhibit your overactive areas by foam rolling the above muscle groups (30-45 sec each) and then lengthen each out by holding a 30-45 sec static stretch

We now need to look at isolating the strength of the weaker groups -> Hamstrings, Glutes and Core stabilisers! - hip extensions/ leg curls / dead bugs / planks / superman’s are an example of isolated strengthening that will correct your dysfunction!

We took a week off and now we’re back to #UpgradeYoShit - Today we address a statement made by a FP practitioner saying that Traditional Mace swingers are Swinging with “isolated” shoulder movement. .
First, that’s untrue. .
Second, that’s impossible. .
A shoulder doesn’t move in isolation under these loads. The movement, regardless of how tight or not you keep the core requires a transfer or forces through the core. Upgrade your understanding of mace swinging.
