With zero emphasis on “line” the goal of each qualifying (and lead run in tandem) is to drive with high speed and angle, but mainly to be as smooth as possible! You must navigate your own line through the course without crossing the lines to get the highest score.
I have been learning the system and trying different setups to get higher qualifying scores each time. Here it is. A little bit of old, a little bit of new and a lot of history. I’m excited to be a small part of this project. It’s a unicorn 305 from the car that won 24 hours of Daytona in 94 and 95. Many parts are unique to this engine, including castings for connections from the special block to the integrated oil/water pumps on either side of the engine. Recently mechanical injection was removed for modern EFI with Motec M880 and M&W ignition, but in order to keep quasi period correct, it still has an old single coil and modded distributor setup with wires. Setup, startup, initial running were today and the new bits are all working. Power tuning is planned for tomorrow.
