Emre Arolat Architecture (EAA) has designed the Nora Mosque and Community Center in Ajman, in the United Arab Emirates. The 10,000 square meter site located just north of Dubai, is located near a massive high rise residence block. However, it creates its own unique ambiance and spatial setting with a composition of shell-like platforms that spring from the earth.

It wasn’t until this trip to Malaysia that I realized how I did not have a deep understanding of how water is such an important element to mosques... but to see it in person, I now truly understand it. Thankful that a marvel like this has been shared and opened for us to see. 😌
On our way through Istanbul we were able to see the amazing craftsmanship of Islam culture. The mosque interior is one of them. While being lost, we stumbled upon one mosque that was closed to public, but I was so excited when I saw the name on it. We entered inside courtyard full of small boys playing. While looking around a nice old man approached us and asked where we’re from (me wearing hijab, my boyfriend wearing his long beard). When I said Bosnia (one of rare times when Bosnia won its simpathy over Italy) the old man decided to show us the mosque inside. It was the Mehmed Paša Sokolovic‘s mosque. Born in an orthodox family, taken away into janissary, he reached Grand Vizir rank during his warrior career. He earned a lot of respect and served long the Otoman Empire.
Everything was perfect until my nice boyfriend, during our discussion with the old man, asked „When was this church built?“....... #mosque#mosquearchitecture#mehmedpasasokolovic#istanbul#tb#travel
