A day in the upper Willamette Valley. First, a special Beaux Freres “brunch”: crepes with library wines! 2013 Gran Moraine, 2012 BF, 2011 Willamette Valley, 2009 BF, and 2010 Upper Terrace. As an aside, I picked up a couple 2015 Sequitur’s while I was there. Then, off to Monk’s Gate; their Trinity 2015 is really nice. Third: Domain Drouhin, where ironically I picked up French Burgundy: Rully 2014 (a steal), and Morey St Denise, 2014. Forth: Hazelfern. Laura was an incredible host considering: 1) she has 3 or 4 parties going constantly; and 2) she was all alone. Their Pinots were superb (I’ll review them soon); but the stand-out of the day for me was their Hazelfern Chardonnay, 2016. Stupid good stuff. And lastly, (and I’ll have to go into this more later), we _finally_ visited Archer Vineyards (right off 99W). I say “finally” because my wife’s grand father planted that vineyard, and it’s named after him. Really nice Pinot Gris’s, and their 2016 “Willamette Valley” Pinot stood out for me. .
