The steps to a self-fulfilling life according to Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and renowned psychologist, can be summed up in three ways:
1.) invest in a project that gives meaning
2.) invest in meaningful relationships
3.) appreciate what the difficult times have to offer, and their purpose
This is beautifully summarized and emphasized by Donald Miller in his book “Scary Close,” which YOU need to read some day in your lifetime.
Our #mondaymuse is @happygreylucky 💜 The photos are inspiring and her family is adorable! We LOVE her bio “trying to spread happiness one photo at a time.” That should really be the goal of all this, right??
ruther bader ginsberg, affectionately dubbed RBG, is many, mighty things: associate justice of the united states supreme court, fearless feminist, civil rights activist, the first woman to make both the harvard law review and the columbia law review, wife and mother, to name a few.
as someone who has always been aware but not necessarily active when it comes to social justice issues, i felt compelled to watch @cnn‘s @rbgmovie- and i am so grateful that i did. her professional career is incredible, and her relentlessness in fighting for what is right made me want to turn off the tv, go out and do something. so if you too share in my desire to be better allies to one another then i highly recommend watching RBG.
this being said, it wasn’t anything professional or career-oriented that inspired my urge to celebrate this human. the most remarkable thing that i have learned from RBG is a lesson in quiet, strong-willed, resilience.
while they were both attending harvard, and new parents to a young daughter, ruth’s husband marty was diagnosed with cancer. i try to imagine myself as a young mother in the mid-fifties, needing to justify my place in lieu of a man’s at school by being nothing short of the best (this was rumored to be verbally asked of women by the dean of harvard at the time), and caring for my sick husband while coordinating his studies so that he can complete his degree while receiving treatment. what? how?
you just do it, that’s how. RBG made me cognizant of what the human spirit is capable of when there is no other way. she is an unapologetic, simultaneously quiet and loud fighter. her legacy shows us just how effective we can be when we carefully select our battles by seizing control over what we can and relinquish what we cannot; when we say what needs to be said and we do what needs to be done, both for ourselves and for those who do not share in our privilege.
i am so inspired by her. like, frame-this-photo-for-my-bedside-table, inspired. the fact that wonderful, badass people like the notorious RBG exist makes me want to be one too, and i hope it does the same for you. “i dissent.”
#MondayMuse Thinking about my great-grandmother Marie today. Loving, warm, classy, principled, stubborn, humorous, always stylish, joyful, wise and a deeply faithful women. I was young when I knew her, but her spirit was strong and I remember it well ❤
Our #mondaymuse isn’t food related, or really anything specific. Right now, I’m just grateful for moments of peace and solitude. If you’re feeling frazzled right now-don’t worry! You’re NOT alone. Can you take one minute to touch a plant, or to place your hands on a tree? Try to find a moment of stillness somewhere in your day. Bonus if you have a cute pup with you! 😍^Clair
Money Monday Tip 1:
Don't use money to make yourself feel good. That type of high is fleeting. Instead, do things that promote self-respect and creativity so you don't have to seek those feelings through spending money.
