Want to know how insecure an artist can be? Probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway. 😉😂 Two weeks ago, I wanted to quit art. It had been 6 months of self-doubt and depression. I was tired of taking classes and reading books, trying to keep my motivation going. Sometimes I would feel great, but most days, not so much. I felt like I was going through a breakup that was 100% my fault.
What am I doing wrong?
Where do I go from here?
Why even try? Nobody cares.
So I deactivated my account. I was actually going to delete it (super dramatic, I know), but a friend told me to deactivate, just in case I wanted to come back. So I went dark. Focused on other things in my life. Did not pick up a pencil or stylus for two weeks...and I'm so glad I did.
Today, it happened. The spark I needed finally returned and I sketched for non-stop for three hours. I don't think that would have happened if I had not taken that break. I've always preached to "take care of yourself" and "make time for self-care" but I have a funny way of not following my own advice.
So I'm reminding you (and myself) to do just that. Do not force creativity. Make time for yourself to enjoy the world around you. Stumble upon new things, take up new hobbies, discover more about yourself.
I'm not saying this solves everything, but it can provide new perspectives. Answers to questions you didn't know needed answering. Down to its core, art is emotional. This is why an artist can go through so many ups and downs. This is why it is so important to take care of yourself. And this is why I will keep talking about it. 💖 If you ever feel like you need someone to talk to, I'm here, just a DM away. 💞
Uppercase A to Z country names!!! (without W as there’s no country name in the world that starts with W?) Much more to improve (mainly the slant and the elegance and the alphabet spacing and everything LOL) but I’m happy that I started to write more and more Copperplate now. Keep going!
A day late but here’s yesterday’s #WordsToLiveByJuly prompt from @leallylettering. A week from today is my birthday... Woohoo! 🙌 Outside of gifts, it doesn’t feel much like my birthday month but then again, do adult birthdays ever really feel like your birthday anymore? 🤦♀️ I wish I could ACTUALLY celebrate with you guys. Imagine how beautiful the cards I received would be. Haha. 🤣 But if you are new here, you might not know that I’m celebrating my birthday all month long with a little sale on my website. Don’t forget that my lettering guide is on sale for $10 until the end of the month or if you’re wanting a brush bundle, use the coupon code “July” for 10% off. 🙌
Done in Procreate on an iPad Pro using an Apple Pencil.
Brush used: Bossy Chalk available ONLY in my Bossy Chalk bundle on my website. Use the link in my bio to snag yours. 😘
Video is done in real time (if only I could letter on paper this fast- haha!)
I had lots of questions about the organizers I showed in my office tour! This case is from amazon BUT I’d highly recommend you watch my review on YouTube first because there are quirks and I don’t think everyone will love it (it’s made for colored pencils)! Tombows fitting into them are one of the quirks, so here’s how I finally settled on them fitting! Overall, it works for me (and the colors give me all the heart eyes 😍), but it totally depends on your needs!
Danielle was a random person sitting in the office waiting for an appointment & for some reason the Lord told me to tell her my testimony. I was hesitant at first, but had to be obedient, so I did it. We broke out in tears & set up a day after work to meet up. We met up 4 days ago & after we finished meeting up, she decided she wanted to get baptized before her wedding! We gave her shame, guilt & pain to God. I had my hubby baptize her the very next day! Hallelujah! She will be walking down the aisle tomorrow! Making this wood piece for her is very special to me. Thank you Lord for using me to share your reckless love to your people ❤️
I didn’t realize the video was cut short 😢
It’s always nice to send and receive a pretty little thank you card. I unintentionally printed these on classic felt paper instead of the linen I typically use and I 💛! Have several sets of these on hand ready to ship and locally at @abmrsvl 📩
Enjoy your weekend!
I don’t have many words today. It’s been an exhausting month culminating in planning the funeral for a family member today. I feel dry and in need of living water. Every day. Every moment. These last few weeks just remind me of how desperately thirsty I truly am. His well never runs dry.
I studied abroad 4 years ago in Copenhagen and it sparked this desire to go, well basically everywhere. Here are some of the places on my list. I’m currently planning a trip to Italy with my mom next summer and I am sooo excited to travel again ✨✈️
Anyone have any other places they recommend? 🤓
For all you’ve done , we should make everyday Mother’s day!
