I've been feeling anxious and sad this morning because I have so many things I want to make and so many things I still want to learn but I dont have the time. I wish I had the luxury to take a month out of the year to explore and experiment but I don't. So, I take thirty minutes here and thirty minutes there and mock up these little doodles in illustrator because at something is better than nothing and at least I'm getting the designs out of my brain before they're erased by thoughts.
My His and Hers Meadowland Quilts are basted and ready for quilting! I used a neutral bundle from @fabricbubb for His, and a Melody Miller bundle from @cottoneer for Hers. Both quilts have Cotton & Steel “Rainy Day” backgrounds, and you can’t see them here, but both backs are an Essex woven linen check. These are my second and third Meadowlands, wonderful pattern by @thencamejune (you probably know it already, unless you have been under a quilt rock!). I’m actually a feeling little intimidated by the quilting for these. Since they’re going to live in our RV, I could just use straight lines, and get them done fairly quickly. But I could also take the chance of trying some new free motion stuff I’ve been noodling over, and the new free motion bobbin case (much tighter adjustment) that I just got. I’m concerned that the linen on the back will change how my FMQ looks. I’m going to make a test square with my linen trimmings and then decide. Honestly, I kind of just want them done. Maybe a magic wand?
#kanthastitch also spelled ‘Kanta’and ‘Qanta’is a type of embroidery craft in the eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, specifically in Bangladesh and in the Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha.
Kantha stitching is also used to make simple quilts, commonly known as Nakshi Kantha. Women in Bengal typically use old saris and cloth and layer them with kantha stitching to make a light blanket, throw, or bedspread, especially for children. Kantha is very popular with tourists visiting the Bengal region of the Indian subcontinent.
THE STARTBURST MACARON BABY QUILT PATTERN IS HERE! AND IT'S FREE! (Link in bio)
Yesterday I tried to get my little quilt model to smile for the camera for the cover picture of the Starburst Macaron baby quilt pattern. A lot has changed since his last modeling gig and let's just say he is a lot less interested in laying around smiling since he is MOBILE and can flip and turn and alllllmmmost crawl (please take a little longer, little one, please!). Also, yesterday was the fist time someone got to touch autumn leaves which, after one crunch, there was no chance this photo shoot was happening the way I imagined it. (See leaf in his mouth, apparently they are delicious and I couldn't stop him from grabbing fist fulls that went right into his mouth!) Luckily the great peek-a-boo master (also known as my husband) got home from work just in time for the last moments of sunlight and all was not lost. I guess that's just the way it is from now on! There might just be action shots from here on out.

I want to love this country. But I’m finding it hard to reconcile how good and loving people continue to support a system that makes things harder for so many of our neighbors and trashes our planet. We can do so much better, and we’ve got a great opportunity real soon >>> Please VOTE for the country you want on November 6.
Shout outs to @heidi.parkes for her embroidery prowess on this piece and @emg1313 for her supportive spirit and keen silver nail polish

#52weeksofsurfacedesign week 2: ice dyed fabric! this week’s surface design experiment was inspired by my online pal @apriltwoeightyquilts who makes stunning quilts and home accessories out of hand dyed fabric. she graciously and generously shared some of her tips on ice dyeing with me over the past few weeks. her tips, coupled with a tutorial on @dharmatradingco website had me ice dyeing in no time.
it’s a pretty easy process. you need ice, powdered MX dyes, a bin, and some sort of rack to sit in the bin on which your fabric will in turn sit, allowing dye and water to precipitate through as the ice melts (and not touch the fabric in the process). make sure to soak the fabric in a soda ash solution first, pile on ice, sprinkle on dye powder...and wait for the ice to melt. rinse, wash, enjoy!

I’m finally ready to share the finished Sunshowers quilt! 🌈 The PDF pattern will be available in my shop tomorrow!
If you want to see a few more rainbows check out #sunshowersquilt . The pattern testers have made beautiful quilts! ❤️ I’ll get to share more of those with you this week!
My husband helped me get this picture on a partly cloudy day with the assistance of a ladder, a selfie stick, and an 11-month-old. The quilt is 75” x 80”. Who wants to guess how long it took us to get this photo? 😂 .
I added another color to this mix today... any guesses?! Today was the last of my for-fun sewing before we take off for Boston! Tomorrow I’ll pack some hand quilting projects to take with! 🙌🏼👊🏼 🖤💙 This is also your 12 hour warning! Shop closes up in 12 hours, these black white and blue bundles may not be back! 25fq bundles are officially sold out but there are still some 20, 16 and 12 fat quarter bundles left in the shop tonight and all orders will be shipped out tomorrow and then the shop will be closed for the next 4 weeks! I don’t know how to thank you all enough for how fun these bundles have been the last few months. I’m so excited about the bundles I have in the pipeline and I’m wildly thankful (especially in weeks of wacky surprise expenses like trees in your house😜😬) that it’s been a way I can start to add support to our family! It’s been so fun forming relationships with each of you and I feel invested in seeing where each bundle ends up! You all are the best! #tiptuesday of the week: when you stitch a buttonhole but don’t have a buttonhole cutter, you can instead cut it using a stitch ripper. But be sure to place a pin on each end of the buttonhole to act as a stopper, so you won’t accidentally cut into the stitching 💡
"The internet has been down in my neighborhood all day, and it was such a nice, relaxing break." - said me NEVER. I love the internet! I actually sewed in total silence today with no breaks for music or podcasts or Netflix or email...it was awful. But I've created a hotspot through my phone long enough for me to figure out the winner of the Week 5 #modernfanssa – it's @muttersomequilts !!! You get $100 to @fabricworm so DM me your email address. YAY!! Go you! Tomorrow I'll post details on Week 6. We're coming up on the home stretch of the sew along, people!
