We’ve had some dynamic skies lately... many showers. It’s classic spring weather, we are always asked “what do you do if it rains,” basically, if we are out sailing, there’s not much to do except put on a jacket. Our operation isn’t really geared for bad weather as most of our seating is on deck in the open. Hopefully our guests this week are feeling adventurous :) #springshowers
busy toddler / tired mama. Because sometimes doing something is easier than doing nothing. We also watched Frozen for the first time today. And I gave her a Girl Scout cookie. The snow-monster part might ruin our life though, tbd.
Had the best trip with some of my best friends in Puerto Rico again. Thanks so much @pitosoulsurf for everything!! When you’re lucky enough to be friends with a bunch of living legends it’s easy to have an epic time. 🇵🇷 #moderndaypostcards
Perfection can look a lot of different ways... major storm systems are pretty much blocking out the sun here in The sierras, so we just like to remember what it looks like on a perfect summer evening. #miraclemarch bring it on!
Some of our favorite repeat sailors here! If you are in the Bay Area check out the incredible photography of @frank_quirarte_photo the show runs through February 11th at the Coastal Arts League Gallery in Half Moon Bay. You will not be disappointed, unless of course, you are bored looking at the most intense and beautiful waves in the world. #mavericksheavymetal
[It’s the third day of the storm. The night before it hit we were at a sushi restaurant in town where I got to talking to the owner. Her accent was mysterious; some cross between Australian, British and Bahamian. I kept trying to ask her where she was from (Canada, as it turns out), but it took a while before she acknowledged the question. I can see now that this is probably because it’s hard to answer. Living in this diverse little island chain, she probably feels she’s from everywhere.
She told me she and her family have a house with a trampoline and a heated pool. She said if we get “in the weeds” to come and holler.
“In the weeds” I’ve never heard this expression before, but three days into inhabiting this small island and boat in the rain, I knew exactly what she meant.
At my 4 a.m. feeding with the baby I lie awake thinking that eventually, the kids will see the real me. How neurotic I can be, how desperate. The charade with be up. They’ll only listen to their friends.
The next day I think it’s going to happen: I’m going to fall apart.] ...telling stories on my blog from our trip. 2 weeks, 10 people, 1 boat, etcetera, etcetera (link in bio)
Been sleeping in the same room as the kids this trip, which has made it really obvious how much Avalon sleep talks. Last night she said “What are you eating Mama?” 🤔. So long beautiful adventure. We’ll miss you!
A lot of times the trips my dad takes us on seem like they could go either way: adventure or misadventure. Sometimes it’s a combo, but they’re always good memories. The kids may not remember any of this trip, but my mom says it will be in their DNA and for that I am thankful. (Boat left behind by Hurricane Sandy in “the devil’s backbone” Eleuthera, Bahamas.)
When we first arrived to this beach that Ben from the bachelor once left Olivia on, one pig ran up to us, another started peeing, another started drinking that one’s pee and then one pooped in the crystal, pristine water. I’m not easily grossed out, but this definitely burned into my memory in a bad way. Later I watched a mother pig feed her babies on the sand. They were ravenous, demanding little fiends. They weren’t too unlike human babies. I thought, I mean I *hoped*, I had nothing in common with the pigs, but then watching the mother surrender to the needs of her offspring, I knew on days when motherhood felt overwhelming and consuming, that I would remember her. #🐷 📷: @daniellaaahollaaa
Things are looking up 👀! Check out the perfect twist in the leech of our @quantumsails main. It is important to have everything tuned and trimmed correctly in order to maximize sailing efficiency which to us equals maximum fun. #sailing is fun
There have been 10 of us sleeping on a boat bobbing in the western Atlantic. Some days have been like you hope they will be when you travel 3 days to get somewhere else: white sand beaches, long naps, cold drinks. Others have been more on par with the low expectations I set for traveling with an infant and toddler: meltdowns, bad sleep, cabin fever. Here is a picture of Avalon living the former. The kind of memory that I know will prevail in the end.
Sometimes it's better to be in the background... Awesome perspective of the Express 27 with our Santa Cruz 50 in the background set against the magical north Lake Tahoe mountain scape. We give this 📷 from our bud @matt.bansak.photography a 💯 thanks. #magicrealism
